This is a constant reminder that a woman gave birth to sin in the human race and passes it on to all her children. She can be delievered from this curse by raising godly children (see 1Ti2:15).

Because of sin and the curse, the man and the woman will face struggles in their own relationship. Sin has turned the harmonious system of God ordained roles into distasteful struggles of self-will. Lifelong companions, husbands and wives will need God's help in getting along as a result. The woman's desire will be to lord it over her husband, but the husband will rule by devine design (Eph 5:22-25).

Sad for both the male and female, if you ask me.

Start with the fact that some people really do suffer this unique pain. Call those people women. Then look at those people who can not suffer in this way, call them men. Now ask, read, and research the history of the relationship between these two groups. Who is dominant?

Is this what God wanted, in the first place? The answer is no. The reason God didn't want this for women, is to be found in the story you refer to.

Now look around you. Do you see women offering their bodies to men?

it was a sad day for everyone, but the reason was they had mixed "seed" in the garden and were not supposed to. If you look a few verses earlier, they suddenly notice they're naked, and the verse 3:15, God tells the serpent (satan) that he will put enmity between his seed and the woman's seed. This was gentic mixing that resulted in Cain. Abel was Adam and eve's son. Remember the "serpent" told Eve if she "ate of the fruit" she would be a creator like God. The way people become "creators" themselves is by having children.

NIV has different translation. Instead of sorrow, it states suffering and pain. The bible is right, human being is the only mammal that has a painful labor... you look at dog or cat, no problem delivering 4 or 5 pups... or any other mammal..

Original sin needed justice, and God's justice was for women's painful labor.. For man it was for him to toil the ground and work the land and suffer in providing for the family. Sounds familar? Everything is bible is accurate... it is just amazing how accurate it is even after 2000 years...

It's sad to look at the bible and think that a female must always be ruled by a man. I don't think it was meant to be literal. I think it means that their days of having GOD himself materialize, speak to them personally, and chill with Adam and Eve in the garden, were over because they didn't obey. The world will be ruled by man, as in mankind. He said this to Eve because she was the one who was tricked by Satan, but if you think about it, Adam didn't really say a damn thing to stop her, ya dig. Don't be depressed by it, remember that the bible and it's interpretations are all a product of mankind with ancient beliefs. Think about it......only recently (30 yrs or so) have people started to massively adopt the idea that people with dark skin are 100% human beings with god given rights (even though Adam and Eve were dark themselves, don't let those pictures fool you!)

It might be sad for women but for the whole humankind it was good.
No other mammal has pain while delivering because of the smaller size of the head and Brain....
Since Human head is bigger, which means we are more intelligent ...there is pain during childbirth

It is very sad that people create a society based on crude ideas like that, but then it was writen for the kind of person that can be made to believe that someone can actually walk on water.

Well, call me crazy but in my 55 years I've spoken to many females who gave birth. They have all said it was the most exhilerating (albeit painful) and uplifting moment in their lives. Notice the sentence is pronounced as "in thy sorrow"....not "to give you sorrow"......Eve was sorrowful that she had been disobedient, but in her sorrow she was given what no man will ever know--the ability to duplicate, within her womb, the miraculous power of creation. I think it is a wonderful verse, not sad at all.
