The gesture involves putting the tip of your thumb on your nose and extending all fingers upward and wiggling them. The sticking out of the tongue is optional. Just wondering if this has any actually origins or if it's even possible to find anything on this. o_O But... that's the point of asking right ?!!? ^_^

You will get a lot of different answers to this question and it's very possible they can all be correct because that/those gestures have been around for many, many years - possibly centuries.
It's best said to be anything from "Na na, you can't bother me" to "F---- you".

It might be an extension of sign language. Putting your thumb on your chin with fingers extended is the sign for "daddy" and putting your thumb on your forehead with fingers extended is the sign for "mommy".

According to my dad (well according to the friend who told him about it) it's some sort of Polish gesture that means something profane, I forget what. Not a nice thing to do to someone that's Polish anyway.

in a way it is similar to sticking out your tongue as if you are implying that the person--whom it is directed to--- is lower than you, and/ior rubbing something in their face.

For example if you were to take the last donut and i wanted it, and you made that gesture to me, it means --that not only did you get the last donut, but you also make me feel bad since you were faster and stronger etc... --putting me down, in your own glory.

When I was young it was called 'thumbing your nose' and it was used to show the other person that you didn't care what they thought about what you had just done or said.
