The easiest thing you could do is buy some prell shampoo to strip the remaining stain. This might take some time since you used red. Red is the hardest color to remove from hair. If you cannot remove it with prell, use what is called a bleach cap. Mix some powder bleach with a 20 vol cream developer according to instructions. Then add approx 2 tblsp of your shampoo. Apply it to your hair as you would your shampoo . As soon as the red lifts, wash it out like shampoo. The best thing you can do for a "non-fading" red is use semi to permanent haircolor. These types of color penetrate the shaft of the hair and deposit color. Manic painic is strictly a temporary dye. It simply stains the hair shaft. To get a good bright red, you are going to have to add a developer(peroxide). You will have to consider maintenance, but if you choose permanent, the color won't fade into a funky pink. You can just retouch your roots with the permanent color.

There is a (relatively) new brand of do-it-yourself dye that actually doen't change your natural color: it just brightens it. You can go lighter, darker or redder (pulls out and highlights in your natural tones). If you have a lot of natural red tones in your hair you should turn out looking like a natural (not dyed) redhead. I'm pretty sure it was made by Loreal - and is the stuff that is specially advertised as being AMMONIA-FREE and very gentle on your hair. I tried it and really liked it. I think you will be pleasantly surprised also.

Hair dye fads period. Theres nothing you can do about it. All you can do is redye it. Maybe use a diffrent brand. walmart carrys a brand thats made to put either red or fusia highlights in your hair, and it even shows up on dark hair. Its vibrant too. If you buy two boxes it should be enough to cover your whole head with hair slightly over shoulder length
