Every airline gives you a free baggae allowance. This is how many pieces of bags you are allowed to check-in and what they are allowed to weigh. If your baggage goes over that weight allowance, or you bring extra baggage, you will have to pay a fee. The fee depends on the airline. Some airlines charge a flat fee, others charge by the extra weight. It's best to check with your airline ahead of time to clearify their rules.

You are allowed to check 2 pieces free of charge under 50lb for Domestic US flights and 70lb on some International flights, it depends on the airline. Check the airline that you are flying for their weight limits. Certain destinations in South America only allow one piece of checked luggage. Anything over the allowable 2 or weight limits are charged as Excess baggage. From 50lb-70lb is usually a charge of $25. 70-100lb is $50-100 depending on the airline and anything over 100lb is either not accepted or charged a rate per lb.
Contrary to the other persons comment, baggage can not be sent unaccompanied in the US unless it is being shipped as cargo.

no it does not cost- they allow you to take up to a certain weight- I think one plane I took they allowed 300lbs. for two of us- we had about three or four pieces of luggage, but really verify that with your carrier ( cause as I said , I am only guessing). If you go over that weight they do allow you to pay a charge for the extra weight. And bring a small bag with you cause may be able to carry on some of the stuff if it's over.

if you are flying...you get to check in luggages for free as all the charges are already included in your air ticket...however if your luggages are over weight, they will charge you the over weight charges (depends on airport)... but if you are sending your luggages as unaccompanied luggages...they will also charge you for it...

no. it doesnt cost to check in the luggage only if it is under the specified limit. if u take excess baggage, u'l need to pay!
