i was going to be, a long time ago, but you have to pay $200 to get a little card that says you're a member. but you can be a practicing satanist without belonging to the church.
satanism puts you in control of your life, for better or worse. if you don't get that job you wanted its not "well god has a plan" its more like "damn, i f*cked up, how can i prevent this from happening to me again?"
you also have to respect other people's lives. seeing as that's all a person has, their life, its their most precious possession, and must be respected. which is why many are against the death penalty and laugh when people ask if they sacrifice little children.
although if someone doesn't respect you, even if you're being respectful to them, then you don't have to respect them. that's the deal.
then there's the spiritual part. satan is allegorical for satanists. it mostly represents the strength that all people have in themselves, the strength to go down what is normally known as the "left hand path", which is essentially the road less traveled. there are rituals where you try to invoke satan. (remember, its really just bringing to light a different part of your mind, that's all). for some its a little scary at first, but you just have to be ready. there is a "black mass" and everything, but i've never done one, i never really felt the need to.
for a more detailed account i would tell you to read the satanist bible. and take everything anton says with a grain of salt, lol.

I myself haven't applied for my Red Card yet. I am of appropriate age however. Joining the CoS would in my opinion be no different than simply finding a local grotto and attending their events, except you'd still have $200 and you'd have to actually look for said grottos yourself. Where I live there aren't many Satanists and spending that $200 to join the CoS would mean nothing more to me than a really expensive trip to Kinkos, so I couldn't give you any official information from an insider.
If you are truly interested I sugest you buy and read The Satanic Bible by Anton Szandor La Vey and if you like what you read, continue reading and listening to his other works in all forms of media.
I'd like to address those of you who commented from a right-handed point of view. La Vey's Church of Satan doesn't believe that Satan is an actual anthropomorphic deity, simply symbology. Satanists are not Theistic. I prefer the term 'Autotheistic' personally. A Satanist is encouraged to acknowlage his or her influence on his or her own life, thus truly taking responsibility for everything good and bad that happens rather than praying to a god for forgiveness of sins or the coming of blessings.
I urge you to do a little bit of research before making accusations of Satanism.

Mainstream Satanists (LaVey Satanists) don't actually believe Satan exists. Satanism is an atheistic religion. I personally think it's a much more logical religion than the big world religions (Christianity, Islam, Judaism, etc.)
This is a good site to learn about Satanism, it was created and written by a Satanist:

The Church of Satan...
What is Satan's characteristic? He's the ultimate evil, right?
Why?
Did he kill anyone? Steal? Rape? What did he do that was so wrong?
The only sin that Satan ever committed was knowingly deny the truth (lie). To knowingly create falsehood in order to manipulate people is the most selfish and destructive action in the long term, because it then perverts people's view of the world and turns them against the truth as well, and against morality.
To knowingly embrace sin and evil is to lie to yourself, and this would seem to be the defining characteristic of Satan. His church, therefore, is the church of selfish manipulative lies.
Everyone who has ever lied has drank from Satan's cup. This is why we are all sinners.

remember curiousity killed the cat.
this is very dangerous. why would you even think of messing with satan? he's going to take over your soul, & take u to heaven with the rest of his demons.
this isn't funny or a game to be messing with.
you're going to open up your soul to the devil, & this will be the biggest mistake of your life.
the devil/satan will fight to keep your soul.
you are going to get involved with something very dangerous & you may never have a way out.
you're going to get caught up into something you're going to regret.
this isn't something you should even be curious about. hell is real, & this should be the last place you'd want to go.
satan is going to print a pretty picture for u so you'll fall into his trap. it's not even close to what he's getting u 2 believe or even be curious about.
pray, pray that god help u thru this time of temptation. if u get involved w/this demonic stuff, you're going to have a hard time getting out of it, & or u may never be able to.
you're going to be tormented, beyond belief.
you may do things that you've never even imagined. it's not worth it.
it says in the bible that : is it worth loosing your soul for the cares of this world? no it's not.
going to heaven you'll have joy, peace, happiness, eternal life. not a life of pain, torment, demonic torment, gnashing of teeth, you'll try & kill yourself in hell & u just can't.
it's forever being in a firey pit. why would you want to go there? plz b/careful. this is the worst mistake u could ever make... please listen & trust me. do the right thing, make the right choice. don't go near or mess w/this stuff. you're asking for & looking for danger.

thats like an oxymoron. I suppose it would be more like the Covenant of Satan since it isnt really a congregation thing.
Besides why would you want to?
Satan wont save you from death or the apolypse.
Just so you know.
