My Gandpa used to say, "Son, don't dip your pen in the company inkwell."
Those old folks had some funny sayings - and seems they are often true.
There are two principal problems with dating a co-worker:
1 - Failure
2 - Success
Failure, as others have already explained, can be unfortunate. Either or both of you may suffer embarrassment and discomfort at work. Even failing to succeed in landing a date can cause that. Do you like your job? You may have to change it.
Success is just as much a problem. Being close to someone and also working with that someone actually loads a relationship with stress. There is such a thing as too much time together. The people who can do that are quite rare. Also, many companies don't allow people to keep their jobs if they form a close and durable outside relationship - and, although this is far, far beyond the question - if you were to marry, one of you might well be required to quit.
Don't do it. It is a lose-lose deal.

i dated a lot of women at work. I think it is a bad idea if you treat the person badly. all the women and there were 6 of them knew each other never bad mouthed me after or during a relationship. you just have to be grown up about it. There were a few problems from me and them but I'm not a bad guy so we always seemed to talk though. i remember my boss asked this one girl i had just started dating at work "why she was wasting her time and that i had been with a lot of women" she just answered him "that is because he is a good guy!! " flattered the hell out me
BUT i will say that i have seen it go really bad with some other people. good luck hope yours works out.

Oh YES! It's a very bad idea!
Don't do it!!! I've tried it three different times and places... it never worked out - NEVER!!! Not from work - NEVER!!!
Trust me!
When things don't work out, you're still stuck at work with each other... and then the rumors start... and the lies, etc.
Consider yourself warned!
(Even though I know you're gonna do it!)

depends. if you break up then yes you might wish you never dated your co-worker. would be real ackward situation. also, does your company allow dating among co-workers, some don't. but hey, if you're willing to take the risk then go for it, it can turn out for the best.
