Ok. This is going to sound terrible. But my friends got a kitten last week and he was eating fine until somehow he got stuck overnight in the fridge :( (yes i know they really shouldn't be pet owners, but they feel terrible about it) He was ok when they found him in the morning but since then he is extremely tired, sneezing all the time, and won't eat at all, he will hardly drink anything unless you force him and he just looks totally out of it. I'm scared he is going to get dehydrated soon or something. should they take him to the vet asap? is it possible for the cat to have caught a cold? Also, what is a good brand of cat food for kittens? and is wet or dry food better? I'm want to make sure they do the right thing and told them i would try to find out what i could about all this but either way i think the cat should go to the vet....any advice or tips?

When a kitten is inactive they are extremely ill. My kitten was very sick with a fever. I thought she was okay and would get over it herself, because she still would play. When her sister became ill, I took them in to see the vet.
My vet said that kittens will play until they are nearly dead, because that is the way they learn all their hunting skills, which are necessary to a cat in the wild.
My kittens recovered, although I think the vet was right because the first one never did learn to climb trees, and is somewhat clumsy. I hope this kitten recovers too. Don't feel embarrassed. I am glad you asked for advice.

Hi, I raise purebred maine coons and the first thing I tell my new kitten owners, is that they are not to be alarmed if right after they get their new kitten home, the kitten starts sneezing. The problem could be as simple as your kitten is getting used to your household dust. Not that I am saying you are a bad housekeeper, every household has dust and they tend to differ. If the kitten has had a chance to run around your house and explore ,there is a good chance she got into some sort of dust. This will persist for a few days and as she gets accustomed to it she will stop. The other is that coming from a shelter she may have picked up a respiratory virus. This is a generally harmless virus that will pop up once in awhile especially at a time of stress for the kitten. Just the drive to your home and her new surroundings could be all that's needed for this virus to flair up. A good vet well administer a mild antibiotic and Kitty will be good as gold in a few days.

He has a cold, and possibly pneumonia. They need to get it to a vet for antibiotics. Antibiotics for pets are very cheap, but the office call will probably be around 50 or more dollars, depending on the area that you live. Purina Kitten chow is good- moisten it for the kitten. Also- they can buy kitten formula at pet stores and wal-mart. This will help it to get more nutrients. They may even want to feed it this formula with a syringe to make sure it does not get dehydrated.

Take him to the vet ASAP-probably has a virus-my son's cat did that same thing last year-sneezing and couldn't meow-wouldn't eat-vet gave us some liquid meds for several days, and the cat could only eat very soft cat food. Probably not related to the frig incident-but get him to a vet quick!

That kitty needs a vet ASAP! If the cat has pneumonia and it is not treated promptly, it could be deadly. Also, the kitten should be checked for feline leukemia and immunized if necessary.

I cant believe they havent taken him to the vet already. Obviously stuck all night in the fridge is going to affect the kitten. He is obviously going to die if they dont act now and take him to the vet. This should have been attended to immediately.

the kitten needs medical attention ASAP - most likely he got frostbite or became mildly hypothermic while inside the refrigerator. your friends need to take him to a vet, even if they're afraid to explain what happened. when an animal refuses food or water, it almost always indicates a serious problem. at the least, he probably needs an IV to regain fluids and nutrients.
everyone makes mistakes - the key is to do your best to repair them.
