Boxing isn't just based on violence - it's the ultimate competition between two people, ending only when one gives up physically or mentally. It takes an exceptional athlete to do well in the sport - someone who combines speed, power, and intelligence in the ring to overcome an opponent. Yes, a boxer wins by beating another person up - which is violent in and of itself - but the sport as a whole is much more complicated than that.
Don't judge the sport without giving it a shot - check out some boxing-related movies if you need to understand it better (Rocky, Million Dollar Baby, etc)

I dont think YA has a violence category. Boxing isn't really any more violent than a lot of sports like football. In hockey they get to beat each other with sticks, Whoopee!

Boxers are incredible atheletes. There is hours upon hours of training and conditioning in order for two people to step in the ring and throw punches at each other.
But in answer to your question, these are this eras version of the Roman Gladiator pure and simple. Controlled violence in the name of sports. Just like footbal, baseball, hockey, and basketball.

If fishing and hunting are considered sports, then boxing sure as hell should be. Boxing is based on strategy and grace. That's why a lot of fights end in decisions, not knockouts. Hunting and fishing are decided by body count.

The conditioning and training those boxers get. Obviously, the better prepared a boxer is, higher the chances are for him to be successful. And boxers not always go with the intention to 'hurt' another boxer. But if you put one million dollars on the table, even you will bite somebody else's ear!

It's a sport no question about it. It's not about violence at all, in fact it's very strategic.
