Has no one told them this was stupid? Already it's pretty dumb for an adult to look for a date on Yahoo Answers, but a kid I guess doesn't know how desperate this seems. Have their parents not warned them of this?

Neglect and other Stupid Parent Tricks aside, there are two things people might not have considered:
--Maybe these "kids" really aren't kids. :( I know, the idea that folks would lie about something like this is appalling, especially with the legal risks, but the truth is a lot, a LOT of folks on Yahoo do wind up at some point or another with second and third profiles for *roleplaying*, be it of the innocent, Dungeons & Dragons kind or something less wholesome....
And this doesn't even count plants, people posing as kids to snare potential perps....entrapment issues asied, you'd think people would have wised up after the *third* Dateline episode showing how they used young actresses to lure men into doing the stupid and disgusting on television? 8-|
--How many people remember how naive kids are when they play let's pretend? Really, I am shocked and appalled that these "parents" have no clue about this simple fact:
Kids want to be grown-ups. Hell, half of the toys out there for boys and girls are about playing grown-up roles or fantasy versions thereof...kids want to be seen as smart and grown up and being able to play the "grown-up game" on the net is a natural extension of that desire...an extension that needs to be understood and curtailed when it comes to *online* because of the ease with which the wrong folks can exploit that.
So yeah...I can see where the kids are around. This is *why* I have the contact by IM option turned off, by the way, in part to protect my own privacy, but also to protect said kids. Gotta do my part...

Because they can! Even with all the movies on about Internet safety, and school.s teaching the do,s and don't,s on computers, they think O IT WONT HAPPEN TO ME! Also at that age they think they know it all. But i don't like to say this , But i must put the Major Blame on the parents! Why cause the children should be supervised, and there are parent controls and locks on computers that should be on. If the child one day ordered something on the Internet and used dads or moms charge card, once they got the bill, you be dang sure the parent control locks will be on and they would be closely watched. Sad it takes the child charging things on the Internet to get parents to OPEN THERE EYES! Peace.

I would start with the adults (18 and older) about seeking a relationship over the Internet.
