My boyfriend and I will be celebrating our 6 month anniversary next week, and I'd really like to bring up the idea of getting promise rings together. The meaning behind the rings being that we are only 18 and 22 years old, in college and aren't going to get engaged anytime soon, but I'd still love to have rings that symbolize our commitment, that we'll be faithful to each other and do our best to make our relationship work, etc. So do we go shopping for them together (because to be honest I'd like a say in what my ring would look like) or should I just surprise him with one? Also, I don't want to spend a lot of money. (probably no more than $50) so where do we get rings that are cheap but still beautiful? Any positve feedback would be great.

The question was not should I get one or not, it's how do I go about getting one. Helpful answers ONLY, please and thank you.

p.s. age is meaningless...my boyfriend is not afraid of commitment or he wouldn't be commited to me, obviously.

Age is nothing but a number. My BF is 22 and I am 20, we've been together for 3 years and are talking about getting engaged. However, at only 6 months into the relationship I'm not sure how a promise ring would work out. You could get something that symbolizes your commitment in a different manner. Things Remembered has some GREAT items that are perfect for that sort of thing. If you really feel he'll accept the idea, check out department stores. You'd be surprised how great their prices are on jewelry. You might also want to think about getting a Claddagh Ring. I've included a link where you can read more about it. It would be meaningful but the it might not scare him. It's also a unisex ring and is generally very inexpensive. This way you both could get a Claddagh Ring and feel that sense of commitment.

That is a very sweet idea. The only thing is that he might get freaked out by a ring. Guys don't always see the symbolism of a ring like we do, I'd probably wait on that and get him something else. I would think about maybe a bracelet or something.

Promise rings are like Pandoras Box...once you put them on all hell breaks loose. The last thing a 22 year old man wants to think about is marriage..and that exactly what the promise ring symbolizes to them...maybe not to you...but its a promise that means your dick is mine until we get married...don't push it...if he wanted to give you one he would...

Pawnshops have nice stuff and as far as shopping depends if you think he would like to go, then take him and hint at what you might like but it will ultimately be his decision weather or not he takes you with him to get yours. Good luck. Oh and my boy friend got mine at walmart it's beautiful and not to expensive.
