Since the speakers are below the rear deck carpet and there is no grille (unlike other cars Addicted must be used to) you have to remove the rear deck carpet.
If you're still wanting to do this, fold down the rear seat. You'll see 4 black 1inch round heads to panel pins. pull these out. Carefull, because a screw driver will damage them. The proper tool looks kind of like a stubby two prong barbecue fork. Use something wide like that.
Pop the cover panels of off the rear pillars. Everything is pop-on/ pop-off, no screws, no problem.
Pop of the two panels that are on the sides sides of the trunk opening, behind the rear seat back.
now you should be able to pop the rear deck carpet up. Pop up all the pins (front and rear) then slide the carpet to the front of the car.
Now you have access to the speakers.
I put a pair of Kenwood KFC-6979ie in my 2000 Cavalier. They're 3 ways and sound great. Becarefull what you buy because the holder for the factory speaker may limit the basket size of your replacement speakers. Something with a basket too wide won't fit down in the holder properly.
The factory connector won't fit on the replacement speakers, so you'll have to tap into the vehicle speaker wires and attach the ones that come with the new speakers. "quick taps" or "T taps" are the easy way.
In order to figure out which is positive lead you need to get creative. Take the old speaker and connect a AA battery to it. with some jumper wire. That will make the cone move either inwards or outwards. When the cone moves outward then the battery + is on the speaker +. Now you can tell which vehicle wire was on the speaker +. make sure it goes to the replacement speaker + side on both new speakers or you'll lose bass volume.
Reinstall in the reverse order. Be sure to get all the panel pins back in place or things will rattle.
good luck.

All you have to do is pop off the speaker grills in the back using a screwdriver. Carefully pry up at one of the bottom corners and it should pop right off. From there you should be able to unscrew the speakers.

Go for some 3-way infinity's,

take it to best buy.... or look up info on the net... but if the wires or bad, you'll have to change out the speakers and the speaker wire, but the best thing to do is wait till best buy has a sale, and get them to do it, you can get a pretty decent speaker system for 500 or so, that includes the installation.
