I have never had a reaction to nuts before. Could this suddenly develop at age 41? I was eating a Glucerna meal replacement bar which was peanutbutter flavored with a chocolate coating. Was it probably the peanuts in it, or some other ingredient? Or maybe it was all in my head? I have never reacted to any food this way before, but I do have a lot of allergies.

Allergies can appear at any age, but a lot of times it's hard to pinpoint just what you're allergic to. Might be peanuts or something else. Talk to a doctor to be sure. Allergies that make breathing hard can be very dangerous.

You could have a peanut allergy. Allergies can come up at any age & at any time. I wasn't allergic to watermelon, cantelope or honeydew until AFTER I had my son. I eat it anyways & keep Benadryl handy. I also have a citric acid allergy, preventing me from tomatoes, oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruit, pineapple, etc. That was inherited from my mother. Check the ingredients on the Glucerna box. Peanuts are a common allergy these days & can cause you to stop breathing, similar to a bee sting reaction. Also, go see your doctor about this. New allergies need to be in your file. I just developed an allergy to clams, while eating clam chowder that I've eaten for years. I'd had it just the day before the hives outbreak too & NOTHING happened. I went to the doctor, showed him the hive rash & got a shot of Benadryl 800 mg. I came right home & took a nice 4 hour nap too.

Peanuts are notorious for either one of two things:
aflatoxin, or fungicides. Either or both are extremely toxic.
Peanuts that are treated definitely have the fungicide.
Untreated peanuts always seem to have the fungus.
Almonds are a much healthier alternative, in more ways than one!

Could have been any number of ingredients in the bar. Even preservatives or a combination of preservatives. You need to isolate and test the ingredients separately. Shortness of breath doesnt sound very good to me. I would also go to the doctor and perhaps have some more allergy tests.
