I've heard that. You can see that it breaks down when you microwave it.
I try to avoid it.

Many varieties of Styrofoam are safe to microwave, and these products should have a "microwave-safe" label stamped somewhere on them. As with all dishes and food containers, look for that stamp before placing an object in the microwave.

The main danger with microwaving styrofoam is if it gets too hot, it will melt. And then you'll have some fumes and a mess to clean up.
Don't use the styrofoam to reheat anything.

I read that when you microwave any food idem, in styrofoam, you are potentially exposing yourself to many dangerous chemicals, that are potentially hazardous to your health. Why take the chance, until all the evidence is in, don't eat anything that has been cooked using a microwave oven, in styrofoam.

yes, this is true. Heat up your water in another cup, then pour it in the cup. The microwave will make it release toxins that can in the long run make you very ill. Not like all the msg in a cup'o'noodles is that good for you anyway!!

yes, i heard of that before, but never bother to search the fact or information about it, if i'm not mistaken, i read it from the consumer association research.
so i would rather put them on the microwave safe bowl instead of styrofoam.

Better to boil the water in a cup and then just pour it into the styrofoam cup :)

I haven't even thought of it until now, but good point. I would think that if the Styrofoam doesn't have any chlorofluorocarbons in it, it would be okay. You would still absorb some toxins though.

It is slightly toxic. As is anything plastic. The number of carbons on the chain is increased when plastic is heated, and can cause malfuncions in our cells. It sucks, and no food distributor cares about this, nor do they care about hydrogenated oils.
