Ok, this is probably a really stupid question, but I'm a VERY inexperienced traveler and need help!! I've never traveled alone, I've never used a train/subway/bus - nothing- and I'm wondering, what is the best way to go about this? I'm staying at the Commodore Hotel (50 Lancaster Gate London, England W2 3NA)...if someone could help me with this I would REALLY appreciate it!!

And any input on great sightseeing is, of course, greatly appreciated as well. ;D

There is a train that runs from Paddington station to Windsor - should only cost you 7 pounds. Getting around London is very easy - don't worry about it, you'll figure out the tube in a couple of days. I would suggest picking up a travelcard for Zones 1&2 while you're there.

Yes, take train from Paddington Station. You can walk to the station from your HoteI it's only a couple of blocks away! I am from US did this alone way back when it is very easy.

First time in London make sure you see Tower of London and take the free tour with the Beefeater! See a show! Walk around the West End and "the City". St Pauls is also must see. And I always do to the Musuem of the City of London when I am there (been five times) it really gives you a flavor for the history, layout etc.

ALso, first time there it might be a good idea to take a general bus tour. It will help you get your bearing and will give you idea for other stuff to do. Also, check out the pubs -- the older ones.

You will have a great time.

We took the train from Paddington Station to Windsor. The hardest part was that we didn't know we needed to change at Slough and I didn't see any trains going to Windsor on the board, nor any train schedules. Finally we asked at information and the woman sent us in the right direction!

Windsor is really nice, there is a tourist info office right in the train station, as well as a really nice little shopping area. We toured the castle (the free audio guide is really great, but a bit too wordy at times) and walked around the town. However, we were there on a weekend and it seemed like many of the restaurants closed early.

from anywhere in London take tube to Paddington station. then take train to Windsor, there is a cross platform change at Slough. no direct train available. both train (from paddington to Slough) will take 45 min - 1 hour, however, the train runs every 1 hour or so. you can check the timetables at: www.nationalrail.co.uk

another thing worth noting is that even windsor castle opens until 17:15, the last entry is 16:00. and they often close the gate before 16:00. so, get there early to make sure you can get in.
