Try an animal shelter or www.petfinder.com
You may not find a purebred, but you will be saving a life.

You have to be very careful in who you buy a purebred dog- poor breeding can produce a dog with serious health problems. I have a friend who spent a huge amount on a purebred boxer, then spent a lot more on vet bills.

$350 is actually very cheap for a Chihuahua, if it has papers. I paid $200 for a Chihuahua pup WITHOUT papers. Now, I don't believe there is any such thing as a "teacup" chihuahua - as a breed. Of course, when I got mine, I wanted a TINY one too. I just picked the smallest one of the litter, knowing full well she could possibly have health problems etc. etc. I just wanted a tiny tiny cute dog to be my friend. I am happy with her, and she is full-grown at 4.1 pounds (not exactly Teacup Size, but still adorable.).

You are having a hard time finding a "cheap" "teacup" chihuahua, most likely because breeders know that everyone wants a "teacup" and therefore they will actually charge you more for the smaller dog in the bunch. I had this happen to me. I went to a breeder who had registered pups. Four of them were "average" size, and one of them was tinier. She told me, "Oh that one's a teacup, I'll have to charge you more." This is crap. But, if someone wants to charge you more for a white one as opposed to a tan one, they will do so. You don't HAVE to pay it - I did not. I went somewhere else and got a tiny puppy for $200.

Your best bet is to go to the want-ads in the paper, the local animal shelter... Often, pups that are NOT registered will be cheaper.

According to Wikipedia:

"there is no such thing as a "toy Chihuahua."

"Some breeders of Chihuahuas purposely attempt to breed very small animals, and increase the prices of the smallest dogs, or specifically advertise tiny animals. Most reputable breeders disapprove of such practices, pointing out that it is difficult to predict the adult size of a given puppy"

Good luck on finding a tiny one; I love mine!

Yes most likely through a chiuahuah/purebreed rescue group, do a google search. Check animal control/humane society frequently,...you'd be surprised what types of dogs roll through, that are just waiting to find a loving home.

Just don't give a tiny chiuahuah a flea bath or intense flea meds, it can kill the tiny li'l critter. My vet told me chiuahuah's are very sensitive to chemicals. Always consult your vet when medicating a tiny dog.

Good luck, T :)

teacups are always very expensive. I doubt u will find one under 350. 350 is a good price already but good prices mean you are either supporting a puppy mill, or a bad breeder. Both are bad. http://stoppuppymills.org/ You also want to get a puppy with a health guarantee. So try and look for one of those. THey cost more, but it's worth it incase ur puppy dies.

Try going through a rescue - there are rescues that have tons of chihuahuas in foster care right now. Think: animal shelter without the cages. Rescues usually work thru foster care, meaning the dogs are already in a home environment and socialized. What more could you ask for? Don't go to pet stores, either. They get their dogs from puppy mills and are in the business purely for the money.
Don't shop, adopt!
rescues may be a little bit expensive, but consider this:
With your adoption fee through a rescue, your dog will be up to date on all of his shots, spayed/neutered, socialized, Heartworm tested, and healthy.
Pet stores charge you wayy more than $350- -probably over 1,000 and with that you get:
a sick puppy.

Go through rescue!!

Adopt one. But if you want a cheap dog then you will get a cheap quality of dog. $350 is cheap. I spent $1500 on my Great Dane and $500 on my Jack Russell.

That is because I was careful so that I got healthy, good mannered dogs.

Dogs are expensive to buy and to care for. If you want cheap then get a fish!

you would be lucky to get a teacup chihuahua for that cheep. Small dogs don't come cheep because its so rare for them to be fully healthy. Teacups especially. Keep in mind that any dog under 3lbs should be eating 5-6 times a day to keep its blood sugar up. They take alot of time and attention.

You could get one without papers. I wouldn't recomed getting a teacup though. They usually have a lot of health problems.
