Is there a scriptual reference on something about '40 days in the wilderness'? If so, could anyone provide so that I can look up? Any thoughts on what it refers to? Thanks

A number of different people spent 40 days in the wildernes in the Bible. Is there a specific person you were wanting the scripture for?

Moses was in the wilderness for 40 days

(Exodus 34:28) 28 And he continued there with Jehovah forty days and forty nights. He ate no bread and he drank no water. And he proceeded to write upon the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Words.

so was Jesus...
(Luke 4:1-2) 4 Now Jesus, full of holy spirit, turned away from the Jordan, and he was led about by the spirit in the wilderness 2 for forty days, while being tempted by the Devil. Furthermore, he ate nothing in those days, and so, when they were concluded, he felt hungry.

I believe thats in reference to Jesus fasting 40 days in the wilderness. Or possibly the Jews wandering in the wilderness for 40 Years. Try the Gospel of Mark ch. 1.

There are several times whe "40 days [and 40 nights]..." is mentioned in the Bible. Moses spent such time up in Mt. Sinai when he wrote his laws and the books; most of the major prophets, including Jesus, spent such time in the desert [or wilderness] to FAST and PRAY; etc.

The term "40 days" [or even "40 years"] generally meant that "enough time had passed"... i.e., beyond one lunar cycle or 30 days; or more than one generation had passed.

When the Jews camped around the Sinai Peninsula for "40 years" following their Exodus from their bondage in Egypt, that meant that "enough time had passed" [i.e., at least two generations worth had come and gone] for the 'cleansing' from their old previous ways of life had taken place... and thus the Jewish nation was ready to enter their Promised Land across the River Jordan.

Peace be with you!

I didn't see 40 days listed, but these two scriptures do reference Jesus going into the wilderness.
Matthew 4:1
Luke 4:1

Jesus spent 40 days in the wilderness. Noah spent 40 days in the ark. 40 days is a "Poetic" term for a long time. Incidentally, it is also a translational error. The Hebrews number system is base seven, meaning that they count up to seven, and then add another digit for eight (like how we add a second digit for ten) Greeks, and most everyone else in the world counds up to ten, and then adds another digit, or does something similar.

Thus, 40 days is really "40" in a base seven counting system, which means that they counted up to seven, added a digit, counted seven more, seven more, and seven more. The actual number is 28, or one month.

Exo 24:18 And Moses went into the midst of the cloud, and went up into the mountain. And Moses was in the mountain forty days and forty nights.

Num 14:29 Your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness, and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have murmured against Me,
Num 14:30 you shall certainly not come into the land which I swore to make you live in, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.
Num 14:31 But your little ones, which you said should be a prey, I will bring them in and they shall know the land which you have despised.
Num 14:32 But as for you, your bodies shall fall in this wilderness.
Num 14:33 And your sons shall feed in the wilderness forty years and bear your fornications, until your dead bodies have wasted in the wilderness.
Num 14:34 According to the number of the days in which you searched the land, forty days, each day for a year you shall bear your iniquities, forty years; and you shall know My alienation.
Num 14:35 I Jehovah have spoken; I will surely do it to all this evil congregation who are gathered together against Me. They shall be destroyed in this wilderness, and there they shall die.

Jesus fasted for forty days in the wilderness before being tempted by Satan. Compare to the accounts in the other Gospels for more detailed information.

"And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him."

Matthew 4:1-11

1Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. 2After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3The tempter came to him and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread."
4Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"

5Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6"If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written:
" 'He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'"

7Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'"

8Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9"All this I will give you," he said, "if you will bow down and worship me."

10Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'"

11Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.
