While there is only one God, there are countless numbers of beliefs.
When people convert, it is because they find their old belief subject to doubt, and they have found one that they are absolutely sure is true.
But, I read in a Salman Rushdie book;
"Religious conversion, it is like getting on a train. Afterwards, it is only in the train itself that you are really belonging. Not departure platform, not arrival platform. In both these places you are totally despised. Such is converts"
You, however, is perfectly entitled to your own opinion.

If you are Bible believing Christian, you want to let everybody to know that you can only be saved by the mercy of God. John 3:16.
Bible say do not have any other gods.
I think that conversations are good because there are so many misled people like you and everybody who agrees with you.
God does not want to lose you but if you do not accept Jesus, you have missed the way to the God. John 14;6
Jesus came here to free us from religions, He wanted us to have a personal relationship with God. And when you have that you want to repent and start a new life in Him.
The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23.
I want to take to the heaven as many people with me I can. Even Jesus Himself could not make everybody to see, because He uses free will.

You should meet the guy who posted the question on God being above all religions. :) LOL!
God IS above all religions.
Religion, or more accurately, organized religion is all man-made. They are man-made divisions people have come up with over the centuries that separate the children of God from one another.
Why? I guess people just like to find God together with people who are of the same mind-set, people who think the way they do. It all comes down do BELIEF.

Religious conversion mostly do with beliefs. You see, although you may believe that there is one god, religions have different opinions on what god wants and dislikes and demands etc. Sudden interest in a god could have to do with a desire for religion sparked by the rituals involved in conversion.

Your question has no simple answer & I'm not going to preach again until Sunday but I'll give you an example of Why. Suppose you were using a type of fuel that powered your car but poorly & eventually ruined your car. Then, one day, you found a very clean, pure fuel that improved the running of your vehicle; wouldn't you change to it & proclaim it as the best?

Gods are made in the image of their worshippers. Every religious person claims that his particular deity is the only REAL one, and all others are false. Why should I believe any one religion over all the others? If I am asked to accept the existence of one god, why not accept that there are many? Why accept any at all?

smh73448 - Just by quoting spent dogma that has been repeated over and over again and beaten into our heads till we're silly… doesn't make it so. Those quotes in and of themselves mean absolutely nothing and to me make absolutely no sense.
Anyway, consider this: God, the only God there is - is only One - and it's so awesome that it is unfathomable to us. God is beyond our feeble little brains capacity to comprehend it. In that light and because we (humans) need God and need meaning to our lives and especially to our deaths... We (humans) since the first dawn in just about every nook and cranny of the planet have sought to find God. In that quest, time and time again, we have invented thousands of variations of what we think God is. I invite you to look it up and make a list and pick your favorite.
To me God is a singularity… God is love, God is life, God is one... manifesting itself as a macrocosm of everything that is, that has been, and that will ever be, endlessly in infinitum, while manifesting itself as a microcosm in every last minute detail of everything that is, has been, and will ever be…endlessly in infinitum.
At this point in our journey as a humanity, having evolved to our present level of awareness, collectively we are raw consciousness… we as human being are the eyes, the ears and the consciousness of existence, here to serve as witness of the splendor that is the reality we dwell in. But like spoiled little brats we haven’t yet figured it out or reached the point of maturity were we can truly appreciate what we have. God is love, God is life, God is good.

Okay. Missionaries go in, give the people food, money, clothing, electricity and tell them God can give them more. They convert and show devotion in hopes of getting more.
They still work on the "if I please God, I'll be granted gifts!" thing.
There are MANY Gods besides the God of the Book. Open your mind and learn about them. Try at : http://www.godchecker.com

Obviously they where worshipping false god's prior to being converted to Christianitly. That is what happens when they discover the real God. That in it's self should be proof of His existance.

God's Grace is Everywhere. You can't stop it. EDIT: I evaded the topic? :\ uhh? hmm, maybe you didn't read my answer in the appropriate fashion. :) We have free will, but the Savior is EVERYWHERE (he gave us free will, like you said). This just makes people over-joyed. Religious campaigns aren't something you can stop, they are a part of this world. They are just trying to save people. they are following the will of God! :) God Bless!!! :)) There. Sorry that I had to clarify that.
