When a person is in a anger or rage like state and they make animal like sounds is that an act or are they really going primal

It could mean that the person is having emotional difficulties and is lacking the ability to express themselves in a civilized manner. Also...you should probably run and get out of their way!!

No....someone in a primal range becomes deathly quiet and gives you a certain type of stare that is almost reptillian in nature (since it is the reptile part of the brain being engaged, this is more than just an analogy). All the blood drains from their face.
This is extremely dangerous and if you ever see this happen, act immediately to kill or incapacitate them....because they are about to use lethal force against you. The thinking part of their brain has shut off.
Primal noises done by animals are actually social ques designed to prevent violence. They are a symbolic attempt to re-establish the pecking order with little real violence. Humans who aren't manic, don't generally make those noises. Instead, we use words.
All animals do the reptillian stare thing like I described when they are about to kill. This is the behavior that describes primal ferocity and it crosses species.

Growls, grunts, and screams are natural sounds of sheer human rage. Hisses may, or may not be. Chicken calls indicate that they believe you are a puss.
Tiger growls, monkey howls, owl hoots, cricket chirps, or frog ribbits indicate that the person is both very talented, and mentally unstable.

i think they are trying to draw attention to themselves. I have heard it and i think its funny myself. I think it makes them look stupid. definetly an act.
