Melanie IS a French name. They spell it Mélanie, and pronounce it more like MAY-luh-nee.

Melanie is the equivalent. It come down on how to say it. In English it is Mélanie, in french it would be Melaníe.

I don't know but in Serbian it would be Melanija (it's pronounced like Melanie-ya)

Mel for short (my daughter's name) is the same in french & english. How do I know? My native language is french, her father's language is english & this is the only name we could both pronounce the same way!
