Noel is my darling little schipperke/chihuahua mix and her official nickname is Noel the Belle which then evolved to just Noely Belly. But I call her all sorts of things like froggy legs (when she lies stretched out with her legs behind her) and mousey face (because her whiskers are so long). Oh, and I also sing to her to the tune of Michelle by the Beatles with Michelle changed to Noel, of course (Noel, ma belle)

There's also Simon the chihuahua who gets just about anything beginning with an "s" tacked on to his name, including simple Simon, of course.

Thanks for the fun question.

No, actually it's quite common to give your dog a nickname. Our family nickname for our dog is "The Monster Dog" because she is so big, although not as big as some dogs can get. She is a german shepherd husky mix and her real name is Brenna.

Everyone I know, that has pets, has nicknames for them. We have two dogs and two cats...each have at least one nickname. One of my cats, Chester, has a bunch of nicknames because he is so fat and cute; I call him Chester-poof, poofer-woofer, heavy C, chubby luv, or just Poof. Our dog Bizkit is loveable but crazy, we call her Briquette (after Brick in the movie Anchorman) and Bishko, Bisquick, etc...I'm pretty sure that most pet owners that love their pets have some ridiculous names also. It just goes with the territory. :-)

Our rat terrier started out as Yasmine then she hit the 6 month stage ( terrible twos ) and she became Yasmeaner. Now she is just Mean.
I find myself daily saying " be good Mean." It is hilarious to my daughter.

I have a Portuguese Water dog, named Boscar, and I call him Bosey and sometimes Rock Star. If you knew him, and you understood his personality, you would know why. He is such a character. What a great friend, Boscar is to me.
