i really dont see a big problem with it either.. its actually a really helpful system for those less fortunate than the rest of us.. it helps them get enough money to feed their family while they get back on there feet.. just as long as they try to make something of themselves and try to get a job while on it i dont see a problem at all and it shouldnt be embarrassing to those who use it..

If you get back most of what you pay in then you must be on the lower end where income is concerned. I paid in 20,000 last year and got back about 1,000 with 4 dependents. Not a slam on you, its just that the taxing system sucks. I dont mind paying it in either. I was once on welfare, and used it for a hand up. And I got an education, and now I pay it back by paying my taxes. To me it is just a thank you for helping when I needed it, and a way to pass it on to someone else that needs it. It does piss me off when people make welfare a way of life. If you have been on assistance, and lived in the projects like I did, then you know that way more people abuse it, than actually need it.

Its not a major sin being on welfare. Just so you know i am. However i think certain types of ppl give others on it a bad name for instance..... a mother who keeps having children so to stay on a benefit and continue getting more & more money.
Or a mother who refuses to do any type of study or consdier re-entering the work force because they have become accustomed to being given money just for being a parent.
Or even a parent who uses ther benefit for ther own purposes and not the fanilies..
One last one...the parent who gets a benefit whilst selling and receiving drugs therefore making and losing large amounts of money, cheating the system and cheating society.
I am a stay @ home mum...i do part time study via correspondence and plan on going to uni when my daughter starts school so i can further my career. I do not want to be living of the government the rest of my life and i think that the ppl who do should stop being so damn lazy!
Also became a mother @ 17 and by no means has that disadvantaged my career or future and i do not use it as an advantage to gain 'free' money or call it a disability in any way.

It doesn't bother me when people are on it that need to be. People can get denied if they make 1 cent more than welfare allows them to make. It bothers me that too many people get all the benifits and that takes away from people that just need a little bit of help. I dont think it's right that someone gets turned down cause they make a couple dollars too much. What if one of their children need to go to the hospital? That will totally mess them up financially. It's not really the welfare thing that bothers me...it's more the people that abuse the system.

I don't think it's a problem if a woman has a child and is getting no monetary help from the child's father. If she can't make ends meet at her job, a little help from the government shouldn't be considered wrong.
HOWEVER, it's the women who have several children (by different fathers) who keep having them and keep having them. THEY are the reason our welfare system is so f*cked up today. That's just plain old out and out cheating/abusing the system. I hate to see that. "Ooooh, if I have another baby, I can get even MORE food stamps and WIC!" F*ck that. Those women should be sterilized.

You better believe it comes off the rest of us. I have no problem helping Mom when Dad isn't helping, but it's "Daddy" that I really get angry at.
If "the daddy isn't helping", then the "daddy" needs to be put in jail. I have a nephew that has 3 kids and pays no child support at all. He won't hold a steady job. As far as I'm concerned, once the kids come, it is no longer important whether he is having a good time or not. He needs to get his butt to work and support them AS DOES HIS WIFE who is also doing nothing.
Sitting back and letting the rest of the taxpayers pay for the child's support is total crap!

We are talking about Children, I feel if they need the help sure go ahead there is no crime in it. It's when both parents are lazy and don't help support the child then it's a crime. If your baby needs it go for it. Baby's need their shots and other things doctors have to do and none of this is free. I pay my taxes to. And when it comes to helping out a child I would never turn that down.

I just applied for food stamps because I am a single mom of two. I work and go to school full time. I also pay my taxes. I think it is bullshit when people who don't work and are capable of working live off of the government. Welfare is ment to help you get on your feet, not to live off of. Everyone who pays taxes is paying for people on welfare. As for the elderly, they paid for their welfare when they were working...it's called SSI.

I thought that was what America was about, helping each other. I know my mom was on welfare when my sister and I were really small because my dad left when I was born. I think it's a great system, and if they want to complain, then let them, there's nothing they are going to do about it.

There are people that get help from the system, and people the abuse the system. It's the people who abouse the system that screw things up for those who need the help and can't get it. I personally don't think there is any shame in needing some help as long as are trying to help yourself and better your situation.

I don't think any woman should get pregnant without being able to take care of the child and themselves WITHOUT HELP. I feel it is wrong. that's why.
