The best colleges with a public reputation for science in general are M.I.T. (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) on the east coast and Cal-Berkeley (University of California at Berkeley) on the west coast.

I'd like to add a suggestion. Every state in the U.S. has quite a few schools with highly reputable science programs. I think it would be worth your while to research which colleges or universities are rated to have the top 5 or 6 science curriculums in your state of residence. Going to an in-state school would provide a tremendous savings to you - by eliminating very high add-on costs for out-of-state tuition fees.

That all depends on the field of science. For example, the University of Washington is great for medicine. The University of Guam is superb for Marine Biology. Find a more specific field and begin looking with that in mind.

Are you kidding? There is only one university in the USA that qualifies to be rated #1 for science, MIT. Look at the noble laurites in science that teach there and then check out MIT's history; radar, computer science, strobe lights. The Visual Media center, and on and on.
