Technically, there is no fast lane. There are signs that say "slower traffic keep right". That does not mean that there is a lane designated for driving faster.
There are also, in some places, a left lane designated for carpooling, or the HOV lane. It doesn't mean you can go faster because you are in that lane. It means you have to have at least two people in your vehicle to ride in that lane. Motorcycles may also use this lane.
I do think that the people that go quite slow in that left lane should move over to the right, but according to the law, unless they are dangerously obstructing traffic, they don't have to. And there's nothing that anyone can do about it.
The speed limit is the same no matter which lane you're in.

As for the first answer, wrong!
The far left lane is for passing, or also known as, the fast lane.
That is why it is dubbed the 'fast lane'. Passing..., get it ? Driving faster?... The far right lane is for drivers who choose to go slower. The middle lane is intended for drivers who wish to stay away from merging traffic and the risk we take in the fast lane of getting a ticket for speeding :-)
The reason people travel in the fast lane and just dick around is,
THEY ARE CLUELESS!
Please get out of our way :-)
It would also help if people knew where their accelerator was when the light turns green :-)
For the love of God, put down the phone and drive!

Fast lane is usually for emergency vehicles and many of the drivers are not either aware of it or nonchalant about it. I do not think there is any law to fine slow drivers on fast lane except they cause a lot of headache in case of emergency situation.

The better question is why do people not move out of the left lane when they see a person approaching quickly behind them? That used to be common driver etiquette.
The signs posted on our highways that say "Left lane for passing only" are there for a reason, so that traffic is not impeded, and faster moving vehicles can get by.

It's either you're driving too fast yourself or the person driving slow in the fast lane thinks he's fast enough.

Because people don't understand the concept of it therefor shouldn't be driving in the first place.
And the guy who said there is no such thing as a fast lane is an idiot it is called the fast lane for a reason, you can't PASS if you aren't going FAST, therefor it's a FAST lane, looks like he didn't understand the concept either ;)

undecided pertaining to to the sin component of the equation however the main deadly is using slow interior the quick lane. And it truly is not constantly previous people. I even have considered infants texting and using slower interior the quick lane and that they are too preoccupied to alter lanes or maybe care that they are turning out to be a site visitors obstruction!

I think they are probably doing the speed limit. It's just that most of us drive OVER the speed limit. I know I do. In many states, it is not against the law to pass on the right so slower drivers do not have to, by law, stay in the right lanes. I wish they did have this law in all states!

rvogelpohl2001 <<< Thank you!!!
For goodness sake, people... if you see a car behind you and you are in the left (fast) lane, get over. This is my biggest pet peeve. It is rude and inconsiderate of those idiots to slow me down. I have places to be and people to see... move it!
