Having flown (Korea and Greenland from 53 to 62 in an FIS squadron) the F86D, F89J and both the F102A and B, I'm maybe not an expert, but the F22 Raptor is what I'm cleaning a lot of clocks with lately in my several sims. It's "fly by wire" like the dollar deuce, but has the extra advantage of vector thrust and can go mach+ w/o turning on the burner.

First as far as military aircraft, most will not debate that the P-51 was and still is the greatest fighter that was prop driven. For our jet standards today, the F-16 has always been the most amazing. I would concur with the answer previously give about the F/A 18, but most students of the design and flight properties of the F-16 vs. the F/A-18 would bet on the F-16. I would bet on the F-16. Not that the F/A-18 isn't beautiful in it's own right. And whenever I think of Naval Aviators, I will always think F-14, and now the F/A-18. Both beautiful. Now if we are taking into consideration the F-22. Then this is the real huge debate. Because the F-16 has been dominant for so long, it makes on worry that it's unbeatable. But having seen demonstration video of the test flights with an F-22 test flying with a F-16 chase plane, I'm now betting on the F-22 to be superior in the air. It just is. So as far as my favorites: P-51 for propeller driven. F-16 for fighter of the 20th century. And F-22 for fighter to begin the 21st century. Note that albeit some planes may be older, they are just as beautiful now as when they first rolled off the line. These three will always be like that.

Personally, I'm not much of a fan of modern "zoom 'n doom'' aircraft; I prefer aircraft of WW2, which I'm most familiar with, but I do like some jets from the 1950's - 60's. But for it's superb ingenuity and superiority of design, hands down, it has to be the De Havilland Mosquito. A light bomber, day & night fighter, photo recon, carrier-borne fighter, torpedo bomber, fighter-bomber, and anti-shipping strike aircraft all wrapped up in a remarkable, all-wood airframe and powered by two Rolls-Royce Merlin engines. Nothing else touches the Mossie for it's performance, adaptability, ruggedness, or sheer "ballsiness" as an airplane. As much as I love the P-51 Mustang and the Spitfire, the Mosquito will always at or very near the top of my list of favourite aircraft.

Definately the B-17 Flying Fortress!!!!

I actually got to fly in one last year and it was amazing. The power of that giant bird is massive. I became so enamoured with it, that I bought the movies, the Memphis Bell (new and old) and 3 other movies featuring B-17s.

I think I drove my boyfriend nuts with it, but I still love them.
Great Question!

There is nothing as awesome as to watch an OV 10 Bronco on the battlefield. This attack bomber is designed to engage tanks and other vehicles and operates at altitudes under 500 ft. It is equipped with a 20 mm Gatling gun and tow missiles and in Desert Storm the Iraqis would abandon their tanks and run at the sight of one.

My favorite aircraft is not included in your list. its the F/A18 the super hornet, it has advance avionics system and at the smae time it has a user fiendly ejection seat. I like this aircraft because it is a multirole aircraft. can be use in a recon mission, bombing mission and interception. It has also excellent trust weight ratio comapred to other multirole aircraft of the military. Proud to be a Naval Aviator.
