Some good ideas already posted. I like to start dogs very early. A good hunting companion is well mannered. You must teach your pup to obey simple commands . Sit ! Stay ! Come ! Load up ! The way I do this is use small pieces of hot dogs and when the pup does what you want, reward him. With any hunting dog, it is very important for the dog to come to you when called.
Contrary to what many believe, man is not the only thing that hunts for fun. Beagles love, really love to chase rabbits. You may wan to come home and the dog may want to hunt for another hour or so.
You must also teach the dog not to chase other animals. If it starts to chase deer, or cats, or fox then it will be impossible to run rabbits with it.
Have fun !

He is to young right now. At about six months you can start letting him run. Beagles have the natural instinct to chase, run, rabbits. I generally like to hunt young dogs with one of my older ones. Shoot a rabbit in front of him. Then twist the head off and let him lick a little of the blood. That way he knows not only what he is after but he knows why. A few rabbits shot in front of him and he is well on his way to becoming a good one. I seldom hunt with a single dog. They, normally, do better with a group of 3 or 4.

To start kill a rabbit, then let him play with it for a little while, then tie the dead rabbit to a rope drag it around the yard and hide it but don't hide it to good to start with so that he can find his(toy) from that point make it harder each time.when he gets older ,say in a couple of months let him run with a pack of experienced dogs to get the idea of what he's supposed to do .who knows you might have a field champion on your hands. good luck!!

He's too young. Wait till 6 months. Find ads in the newspapers for experienced Beagle trainers.

Rabbits don't deserve to be hunted!!! They just want to eat food and walk around and breathe.

Don't. That is sooo cruel. How would you like to be chased down by a dog then shot. This is heartbreaking.
