To meditate is to calm the waters of your thoughts. I do find it best to sit upright in a cross legged posture. Don't try and concentrate on something because that is not true meditation. When you "do something" it just stirs up the water. Just sit and relax and try and become more calm. Think of it as the time of day when you get the chance to take your mind out of gear and to give it a rest. That way you'll look forward to it every day and not as some task to be accomplished yet again. Let the thoughts come and let the thoughts go freely. Imagine your thoughts, sights, sounds, smells are currents of water. Like you are completely underwater and your whole existence is made up of water. That space is water and when you move or think you disturb the water. Just relax and dissolve into the water around you. Just breath and feel good. Its best to just start with 5 or 10 minutes a day and gradually work up to 20 or 30 minutes after a month or two. After you do this for a few days or weeks your feeling of well being will start to grow and you will feel your well being start to radiate outward. The calmer and more relaxed you become, the farther out your well being will radiate. It will seem like this well being is a light shining outward in all directions. Don't try and do anything and as your calmness grows, your light will radiate further and further out and you will be calming down the rest of existence. All you need to do is sit and calm yourself. As you get more used to sitting, your legs will relax better and your spine will naturally elongate and you will feel like the crown of your head is being suspended by a thread. Your body will feel more relaxed in this alignment, just like in science class when the teacher would put iron filings on a piece of paper and then put a magnet underneath and the iron filings would align with the magnetic field. The first week or two I would just try and sit for 5 or 10 minutes to get your body used to sitting like that and I wouldn't even worry about the mental aspect. You won't be able to relax your mind if you are physically uncomfortable. Forget all that stuff about people ignoring the pain in their legs. Meditation should be enjoyable and stimulating. As you will discover, if you don't already know, the physical and the mental are all the same. Good luck and enjoy!

You give yourself a task, and focus all mental and abilities you can, on that task.. if you're a very active minded person, then you may even meditate on several things at once.. such as listening to a movie and cleaning the dishes at the same time.. not allowing any other thoughts into your mind, except the dishes and the movie

In school one time there was a tape we listen to as we just lied on the ground and it told us things to concentrate on and it played suthing music. Meditating with a prayer group or somthing is good.

i read once a quatation: if you know how to think with your problems and concerns that means you know too how to Think GOD... Thinking more about Him is one way to meditate, telling Him your concerns instead of worrying with your problems, thanking for all the blessings instead of complaining how life is hard, claiming His promises instead of murmuring... GOd has a thousand ways how He cares and loves us.. Think about HIm and He will surely leads you
