i think you're asking if they are better of starting school at age five or six. If so, I would say six. My daughter is turning five in July, and I decided to keep her home for one year. I would rather her be excelled in school than struggle. I think one year gives them a lot more maturity and knowledge. She went to preschool this year and you can really tell the difference in the kids that have been there for two years compared to one. Their confidence in themselves is like night and day compared to the younger kids.
Do whatever you think is right, but I would say give them one more year.

Do you mean should your child skip kindergarten? If so, I would say not to. My oldest son who is headed into third grade in September learned a lot in kindergarten, including how to read and write. When he started first grade he was ahead of the class in reading and would go into the kindergarten class and read to the students. He was only six. My second son is starting kindergarten in the fall, after two years of preschool, and just turned five last week. I don't know if this helped or not but I believe kindergarten is a very important year for students.
Good luck!

each school district has their own cut off ages for when a child can and can't start school. if you do not start your child by a certain time, in the united states, you can get into serious trouble if you can't provide proof of a minimum level of home schooling.
as for whether you should start them at age five or six, starting with kindergarten, unless you can provide proof of a home education that meets the standards of the state's kindergarten requirements.....i have a son who just turned 6 and just finished kindergarten and he did absolutely great. he was 5 when he started and turned 6 at the end of the school year. he was actually the best reader out of all of the kindergarten students at his school. i also have a daughter who would do beautifully in kindergarten if i could start her in 2007 when she turns five, but her birthday is after the cut off day for our school district. i'm afraid she will have problems, because she is already very bright and i think she will be bored. it all depends on the laws in your school district and your child's readiness. if you are concerned, talk to the doctor and get their opinion.

I think it is better for a child to be older than younger because school is not what it was when we had enough funds.qualified teachers etc.Physically an older child is better qualified to "Play" sports. My birthday was Sept. 15 and entered at 5.Idid alright but the teacher said I looke.d like a baby.that extra year makes a child so much more prepared to cope with emotional situations and the competition of first grade. A6 year old has a much much better of self whereas a 5 yr old has the dis advantage of emotional and physical lag time.Over all. there is no hurry. The main thing is to give your child everyadvantage necessary to learn to like school and feel he belongs which is one of the most important things in primary school.Start off ahead of the pack and not behind.Good luck

You should go to the school and ask about your state/ city's laws about when a child should start school. In Texas a child should start school no later than the age of 5 by law. But if your child is already older for whatever reason and you want him to skip kindergarten so he can be with his peers, ask the school if they can give him a placement test. Hopefully you've been teaching him some basics at home so he won't be at a total loss once he starts school. When we left Mexico (all legal so don't freak please) my mom decided to enroll me in school at 5 1/2 yrs in December. They told her that it was too late and that I'd have to start a year later. However, my mom had already taught me to read and write at 4yrs. so she asked them to test me and they ended up letting me in to Kindergarten, even for just a semester. You'd be surprised by what a school can do to help you if you ask them nicely and give them valid reason to honor your requests. So, as long as you don't break any laws, feel free to wait a little bit if you think your child may not be ready. Good Luck!!!

It depends on how mature your child is. Children who are older 5 year olds tend to do better in school than those who just turned 5. Preschool is always a great start. I am waiting to send my daughter as an older 5 year old, I want her to thrive. She is very bright, verbal, and imaginative, but I feel best waiting.

All depends on you child and the laws where you are from
In the USA kids MUST go to school at age 5 and attend kindergarten first.
Both my sons had 2 yrs of Kindergarten. Summer birthdays, maturity level and comprehension levels were not there in the first yr.

Depends on how advanced they are. If they're reading already, and able to do things on a first grade level, then it's better to have them start first grade. You want to challenge them, and constantly give them experiences to feed their brain :) Have your child tested if you feel they are advanced... the experts are better able to advise you.

i think it depends on the child. my son turned 5 in April and he'd been ready the fall before to start school. he knew his alphabet and numbers. he waited to start kindergarten and then was bored to death because he knew most of what was taught. but it gave him a good experience in how to sit still and pay attention, not like pre-school.
