I house sit all the time - with a house with 3 cats. Don't fuss over the cats unless you know them. Mostly leave them alone, and let them approach you. You just need to be there until they need you. Don't panic if you hardly see them. Mostly during the day they find somewhere to sleep, and will come in later in day. When they come in, sit on the floor, and call them to you. They will approach you if they like you. Enjoy your peace and quiet. I love house sitting.

Cats can be weird when their owners aren't around...like many pets I guess...I would feed and play with them as you said, but also just take some time to sit and be relaxed. Maybe watch TV and let them come to you, or not. Basically, just plan for some time for them to just get used to you being there - it doesn't need to be non-stop action from the moment you arrive to the time you leave. Be sure to ask the owner about what their personalities are too (if you don't already know). Some may just run and hide behind the couch till you leave, others won't leave you alone...either way, cats are easy, you'll be fine.

To let you in on a secret, pet-sitting is probably one of the most easy jobs to do especially for cats. Make sure the cats are comfortable with you. Make sure they have all the usual stuff like food, water, toys, and lots of fun.
Really there is no "rules" (except for the ones the owners give you) to cat-sitting. Just go with the flow and have a lot of fun!
Good luck! Hope i helped!

If you really want them to love you, take some catnip. Just don't get the cheap kind in a box with a plastic heart... Go for the Organic...
Attention (petting, playing) is usually enough for cats... Clean the litter boxes...

i got cats like a month ago and i already like them. when you first come they will run from you and may only come when you haqve food. my cats like friskies shredded so make sure that you have enough. you dont want your cats to ruin the furniture so go to petsmart and get a scratching post along with catnip to attract the animals. be sure to have a litter box for you have to clean at leats two times a day if it bbecaomes too full and when it becomes full the cats will make a mess all over the house. play with them and their sensitive spots are their neck and stomach.
hope i helped!!!

Lots of good info here, but it helps to know if you are acquainted with the cats or not. If they don't know you they will probably be in hiding for a while.
But to make friends quick is treats, catnip, toys and just a lot of attention, unless they are older and just want to be left alone.

Cats need to eat meat. Go out and buy organic natural products like "Max Cat", Merricks and Nutro Natural Choice. No milk, unless it is goat milk.
Some cats love to play, so it should be fun. Ask for advice from their human family, regarding their habits and preferances, and what they are and are not allowed to do. Enjoy!

Get some peacock feathers. They're pretty cheap, and I've yet to meet a cat that doesn't go nutz when you wave one in their face. Make little circles with the feather near the cats' faces, wave one at them, etc. Have fun with them! Oh...most pet stores carry them.

Well, most cats only care that you exist because you provide the food. There are those few that desire attention; all they need is some quality time for some lovin'. Make sure each one gets the same amount of time, they get jealous! (No joke.)

Don't wear dark clothing. You'll look like a hairball. Cats love boxes. Throw a paper ball in one and they'll love it. The catnip answer is a good one. I have four cats. Give one of mine a paper ball and he'll retrieve it when you throw it.
