I don't know about the bad name calling but I was everything else you describe. One or two Mormons even suggested I got shunned for the religion. Now I see it quite differently. I am not a Mormon and the rejection continues. Certainly I got enough of it in the church but after thirty years I gave up trying. The temple and the church did finally show me the problem and it seems there is a social group that extends both in the church and out of it. They speak the second vocabulary and use hand communications. They are the majority winner-player group. There is a point where one chooses to be with the outsiders as they act and think the same way you do.

Most people who hate people based on religion usually do so out of ignorance and fear. They fear anything that they don't understand or that is different from what they perceive as normal. Instead of educating themselves about other religions or cultures they find it easier to turn a deaf ear and hate what they are ignorant of. It's really quite sad when you think about it. People who hate you without knowing you are really the ones who suffer. They will never get to know what a fun, loving person you are. They will never get to enjoy your company or share a special moment with you. You, on the other hand, are fortunate not to have to deal with a confrontation from some narrow minded person who only sees what he chooses to believe. The best thing you can do is continue to be a disciple of Christ and always be accepting of others no matter who they are, how they look, or what they believe.

Agree. I'm not a religious person but I see lots of attacks in this category to The Mormons. When I'm a kid a have some Mormons friends and they are really good peoples and ride bicycles very well.

People are just... people. It's a tendency we have, to hate others. It's the same as racism, really. With religion, it's more of an "I'm-right, you're-wrong" thing, and people can become offended because you don't believe in what they do. It sort of unnerves them at times, and can make them wonder if their religion is wrong, or feel that you have everything entirely wrong and are corrupting people who follow the 'right' religion. People tend to judge... it's just how the world is. Sorry.

Because religion has always been of satan and divides. Faith in Christ Jesus, the only begotten son of God, who died for our sins, rose again, ascended into heaven to be at the Father's right hand, and when we accept him and him alone as our Savior, sends the Holy Spirit to indwell within us. The Gospel of John says He was the Word made flesh and it's that Word, the Bible, and the Bible alone that Jesus Christ gave us to live under. If people hate you because of your religion, then they only have a religion too. Because as a Christian, not a religious person calling myself a Christian, I don't hate you, I don't hate anyone as far as that goes, but I do hate(disfavor strongly by definition) religions that lead people away from Jesus Christ, because what I see are souls that are misled and headed to hell and it breaks my heart with sorrow that Christ who came in Truth was and is rejected by so many.

I think Mormons in particular get a bad rap because most of people's experience with them are the people who go door to door. Those Mormons are just pushy, nosy, and mean. So people are stupid and assume all Mormons are like that.

I see that in all religions but i been through all and i give up.they all want to put each other down fighting about who is right or wrong, but now i find my self thinking who cares what anyone thinks i know what is in my heart and what religion i chose,so who cares what other people in this world are never going to be happy, everyone has a choice of their own they have no right to judge others or no reason to others, their is only one God,i think the only difference in religions is the way the worship and what they believe.

People don't hate each other based on religion, the only reason someone hates someone is based on their personality.
I would never hate someone based on their religion, I'm a christian and one of my best friends is Wiccan, I don't approve of what she does, but I still love her very much...
And I don't force religion down her throat, I just told her if she ever wants to know anything about God, I'm here 24/7.

I too think it's sad when we hate each other because of what they believe. Christ calls us to hate the sin but *love* the sinner. In other words, while I may not like your religious beliefs that much and think that they are wrong, I am not to transfer that over to you personally by belittling you, etc - but am called to treat you personally with respect, love, and care.

I have many friends with whom I don't agree with their point of view on life, God, and just about everything, but I still care, love, and respect them personally as human beings made in God's image.

I think that we should all learn to seperate the person from the beliefs, lifestyle, and so on, and discuss the religion, lifestyle, etc, itself without any direct implications or connections to the person who believes or lives that particular religion, lifestyle, etc.

Just my personal opinion.

I think its because that we belive what we hear first as the truth. And we do not like that being violated. Thats why people fight holy wars.

We often never look at a religion in the other guy's point of view. Thats also a problem.

I'm a buddhist by the way.
