WOW! 37 answers in only two hours! Is this a heated debate or what? ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS DESERVE NO RIGHTS! If they want to march, they should march their asses straight south & cross the border! Obviously, our Govt is more concerned about economy then they are about securing our borders, making us safe from terrorists & illegals or listening to THE PEOPLE WHO ARE LEGAL CITIZENS AND VOTE THEM INTO OFFICE--inc the President of the US. Every national poll on CNN or MSNBC shows that the majority of Americans are against, rather than for this amnesty proposal. If Congress doesn't represent the majority of Americans than what good are they? I ADVOCATE going to the polls in Nov & getting something done about it! And for some of the people here who don't know what they are talking about, illegal immigrants ARE getting free medical benefits AND free schooling AND free food stamps EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE NOT CITIZENS. Oh yeah, and in case you haven't seen the article about the female in LA who had her social card (the numbers) stolen by over 200 illegals who kept circulationg the numbers on her ss card--don't tell me they can't get a ss card! If I sound bitter, I am! Illegals are driving down the wages of middle class Americans now and when the SS admin, Medicare & VA benefits and student loan funding is no longer available to US citizens, I hope you're still singing the same tune!

I think a lot of you are completely missing the question being asked.... The question IS NOT about "immigrant" rights, or the unspoken question as should they be here... BUT... I have to use capital letters because you missed it the first time... ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS!!! Stop mentioning the issue of parental immigrants who probably came here legally, the issue is obvious and you're trying to subvert the point. Should Illegal Immigrants be given rights? Yes, basic human rights, the same rights we should hope to get when we are picked up for breaking the law in a foreign country. But rights to what legal citizens are able to get... no. What of the new immigration law? How about we just enforce the laws we already have on the books? Better yet, how about we just "adopt" the same immigration laws that Mexico has, and enforce them the same way?

It's an interesting opinion on the subject, but I disagree with it. The immigration laws in this country are horribly broken. It's almost impossible for anyone to come to America legally. I saw it time and time again with my friends from England and Japan who were highly educated, hard working people with college degrees trying to come work for us at my old job. One of my friends is married to a Japanese woman who was here on a student visa. Even though they're married, they're looking at 2 or 3 years of red tape to get her naturalized as a citizen of the United States. If she leaves the country for any reason (death in the family/vacation), immigration won't let her back in.
What needs to happen here, in my opinion, is that the Government needs to implement a guest worker program that Mexican immigrants can enroll in and tie the program into getting citizenship. If you can live here and work here and pay taxes here under the program for X amount of time, THEN you should be able to get citizenship. A guest worker program would also help get these people "on the grid" and in the system so the police have record of them being here. If they break the law, the guest visa is cancelled and you get deported. The people are already here, so they might as well start paying taxes.
People are looking for a quick fix, but this is going to take years to sort out. The immigration system on the government level needs to be fixed and only then can we start addressing the problems with our border with Mexico.
I guess living in Houston has made me more aware of the problems the Mexicans are facing. All of the Mexicans I've met are friendly, super hard working and have a tight, well knit relationship with their families. They don't get paid much and I've never seen a case of one "American" losing out on a job being done by a Mexican. The fact is, they take all of the jobs in Houston that no one else will work.
When people complain about the "immigration problem," why don't you just call it the Mexican Immigration Problem? I seriously doubt any of these racists would say anything if had a complete open door policy with England and Canada.

Every immigrant should come to America legally. It is hard to do, you know, but doing it illegally is a crime, and they should just be deported. I know that our country is more appealing to live in than some other countries, but there is a legal way to live here. And when you live here you don't commit crimes and you pay taxes. Just like every other American born citizen. I know that every person who is American born isn't the greatest and some do commit crimes, but that is what the justice system is for. Our country is suffering a great deal right now because illegal immigrants are taking a lot of government funds and demanding rights. In other countries, less humane countries, illegal immigrants have no rights and get shot at. They imprison them and hurt them. If anybody is trying to enter USA please do it legally, our country is built on immigration, but paperwork needs to be filed, requests need to be approved, and you need to speak English lol, but there is a correct process to come here.

Ya know what, s m a r t a s s? YOU are an illegal immigrant! Yo - did your ancestors get Native America's permission to barge in here and start taking over? Hail no they didn't! Did your ancestors totally disrupt and wreck a thriving economy? Damm right they did! Did your ancestors bring their own peculiar diseases with 'em and pass those diseases on to the Natives (American Indians) that wiped out entire civilizations? Shore did, chump! So what the heck do you think gives YOU the right to rant on about illegal immigrants? Seems a case of the pot calling the kettle black, yo!

Where do you get this stuff. I guess if you repeat it long enough!!
ILLEGALS CAN'T GET BENEFITS so I don't know what you are talking about. You have to have a US Birth Certificate, Naturalization papers and a Social Security number. Socials are ran thru a computer so they know who it belongs to,
Who is supporting illegal immigration/ They are legalizing some and deporting the rest! So what is your problem?
If you want to call your Congressman about something. call about raising minimum wage, which noe gets someone $10,000 a year before Taxes and Social Security have been taken out! Can you live on 6,000 a year??? I pay far more than that in rent!

Human rights are universal. People have the right to find a better place for themselves and their families. Your ancestors did the same thing at one point in history.
In New Mexico and Texas, Americans were immigrants at one point. They refused to follow Mexican law and decided to become a part of the US. Americans had a right to do that. We all still have the right to go anywhere to try to live a better life with our families. We all have the right to seek out success & happiness.
You tell me to go home? Then you and yours should go home as well! This land is orginally Native American Land anyway!
Besides, as of June 9th I am now an American citizen, and I will e-mail Congress.

Do illegal immigrants in other countries have any rights? For example, if an American lived illegally in Mexico, would his/her children born in Mexico have the right to Mexican citizenship? Would the American have the right to inexpensive health care and free public schooling?
It would be interesting to find out exactly how other countries handle illegal immigration before people start screaming one thing or another.

Why did Hitler and the Germans hate the Jews and other ethnic immigrants, legal or illegal?
Because they were different and they were taking over Germany. They came in like cockroaches. They needed to be exterminated.
Since we cant hate blacks anymore, its against the law to discriminate, the next group will have to hate will be those damn Mexicans. We have a reason now. They are here 'illegally' taking our jobs!
I dont get all the hate in this country...

listen! if you were living in a country where you had the feeling that you could be murdered any SECOND of the day ... or a loved one of yours could loose his life in a blink of an eye, YOU MIGHT THINK DIFFERENTLY! yes, i believe that even illegal ppl shud have rights! just because you were born in america does NOT make u special! illegal immigrants have just as much a right to live as do you ... and if u think differently, i think ur extremely insensitive, and need to get a life!!! what do you have to gain anyways by deporting some of them home??? and what do u loose while they are here???
ps: i am not an illegal immigrant or anything of that sort ... but i understand their plight ... you should have more kindness and humanity in you ... put yourself in their shoes - life is not easy for them as it is ... i wish u had that kind of a life ... you might understand better then

No, it is illegal for them to be here because they did not go through the right government channels. I think they do need medical and food though, but I think that once they apply for it and the government finds out if they are illegal. If they are illegal then they can have medical and food until deportation.
