Yes, but alternate with other exercises targeting the obliques and transversals.

Exercise or no exercise you won't be able to lose the weight if you don't cut your food intake but we all know that's pretty hard, right? A good appetite suppressant can help you out big time but it has to be natural or you can get into serious heath problems.
I lost 38 lbs in 2 months by using garcinia cambogia extract (FDA approved 100% natural). In my first month 26 and then 12 the second month. I was an emotional eater and these supplements changed my life. They act like an appetite suppressant so I didn't feel like eating anymore. Not hungry anymore -> Lower calories -> Lose weight, simple as that. I did no exercises just 20 minutes walks 5 days a week.
It's been 4 months since I lost the weight and I did not gain any pounds back, actually I lost another 5 lbs (I stop taking them after I lost the weight). If you want to take a look here is a website where you can find discounts: http://www.garciniacambogiapromo.com I got them 30% off from here. Hope this helps!

The best exercises for your lower abs require the opposite action of a crunch or situp. Doing a crunch/situp, you bring your shoulders to your core. To exercise the other end of your stomach; the lower end; you will need to bring your knees to your core. You can do this in a variety of ways but I would suggest hanging from a pullup bar and raising your knees. Do this slowly as not to swing your body. Resist using momentum and don't raise your knees up and out, but instead, raise them up and in. Imagine trying to touch your knees to your chest. Obviously, that's near impossible, but that's the feeling your want. You can also lie on the floor, place your hands under your buttocks, and do a bicycling motion with your legs but keep your legs close to the floor instead of above your hips. These are good ways to work the lower abs but the absolute and fastest way to work your lower abs is two legged stair jumps. Careful with this one cause you may have serious stomach muscle aches the next day. Basically, go to a stadium and with both legs at the same time, jump steps. Sometimes taking one stair at a time and others taking two stairs at a time. Good luck !

Yeah, just do them correctly. How ironic...just a few hours ago I was at the gym and I'm pretty sure about 90% of the people who did that exercise did them wrong.
When you lower your legs, slow down and control as much as you can with your abs. Negative reinforcement in other words.
Also don't let your legs swing all the way back. Control and constrict the movement.
When your legs swing all the way back, you are just using your leg muscles.
So many people let their legs swing back. Its so annoying to watch.
When I do them wrong I can do like 30. When I do them right, I can only do 10.

Actually, your body doesn't spot reduce. Unfortunaltly. But, by doing regular weight training like 4 times per week, your metabolism will speed up 24 hours day and start burning alot more fat. Your body will take fat from wherever it is genetically programmed to. To really increase the amount of fat loss, target your legs. By doing this you are using your largest muscle group in your body, and your stomach will shrink to. While it is important to have strong abs, doing extra abdominal excersizes will only make them appear larger because you will be increasing your muscle mass in that area. Really hit squats and lunges hard, with super high reps. Still continue to do your entire body work out but if you concentrate on the largest muscle group your body will burn fat from everywhere.

Andy, great to know you're doing cardio and lifting weights. Doing leg raises only strengthens your abdominals, it doesn't trim off the fat. However, since you will be building more muscle overall, your metabolism should kick in, and you'll lose an overall % of body fat, including your lower abs. To effectively do this however, i would recommend doing your weightlifting right after doing your cardio. That way, your body will have depleted its carbohydrate reserve, and will turn on your reserve for nourishment, thereby causing you to burn more fat effectively, compared to just doing cardio alone or weightlifting alone.
Hope this helps

Cardio is more important. The only way to lose fat, is to use it as energy. Cardio is the best way to do that. Of course building muscle does increase your basal metabolic demands. Great exercises for the lower abs are reverse crunches (which is similar to hanging leg raises). Sit ups are are great also.
The bottom line though is that you need to lose the fat with cardio and dieting.

My personal experience is a combination of exercise and diet. Although the hanging L leg raise helps, I use an exercise ball where you can do full reverse sit-ups, crunches, and sitting with dumbells as you twist from side to side. Good Luck with the dreaded "beer belly" physique.

There is no way to "spot reduce" your abs. When you lose weight, you reduce fat cells (adipose) all over your body. The way to make abs appear more defined and toned is to lose the layer of fat cells over them. The only way to do this is to lower your body fat percentage and allow the underlying musculature to be noticed. As my drill instructor says- "everyone has a 6 pack, you just gotta uncover it". So, do those hanging leg raises, do sit ups, crunches, and lots of ab exercises, because that builds muscle. Muscle cells take more energy (calories) to work than adipose cells. So you burn more calories just by having muscle- SOOO the more you exercise, the more you burn, the more you burn, the more uncovered your abs are going to be. If your abs are developed before you lose that layer of abdominal adipose, then they will just "POP" when you achieve a good level of body fat percentage.
