Especially in the training, like most of u the USMC fan,So why don;t the Army adopt the same training and tradition? Wouldn't it good to have more tougher branches in the armed forces?

How can I express my opinion without insulting anyone? I agree with the comment that it is a completely different mission. The Corps trains its troops to be strong, fit and tough both mentally and physically. They have to! When you know that your primary job is that of a foot solider you have to be dependable. Example- You are a 22 year old Sergeant (E5) a squad leader responsible for the lives of 12 Marines. Your given orders to enter a town and a certain house. Those Marines are depending on you to get them in and out safely. Plus each of them is carrying 80 extra lbs of equipment on their bodies. You have to be tough. ( Most 22 year olds back home are doing what????? Playing video games living with Mom and Dad and bitching because life sucks so much. God I'm so PROUD of this new generation of warriors we have today! These young men and women are trying to build something good out of something that their fathers screwed up decades ago...God love them and watch out over them).

Now for the so called whimpy Air Force guys. I'll use my background. You have to be an expert in your profession, you have to know your job as well as some of the specialists primary job. You have to work long hours when deployed and be able to do so in the heat and cold. You are working on mult-million dollar aircraft and weapons systems designed to kill or blow things up. One mistake can kill you and your crew. One mistake can cause an airplane to crash and kill a pilot. In some cases you have to endure Scud attacks, motor attacks and even sniper fire. Your primary equipment is a primary target and so are you. Your exposed on the flightline and hope that your security forces are doing their job as well as you.

I was told once by an Army Vietnam Veteran (Silver Star, Couple of Bronze Stars, and three purple hearts) that I wasn't really in the military, I was in the AF. I kinda laughed and said, "Yeah you're right. But it sure felt good for you when the Air Force was there providing close air support for you wasn't it?" He didn't have much to say after that either. Different jobs, different missions, but the same fight! Semper Fi and Aim High my friend!

To some extent they have already over the last 20 years, but each branch has determined on it's own how best to train their troops based on their defined mission. To talk about who is better is silly. I'm a former Marine and I will always feel an allegience to the Corps. There are things special about the Marine Corps which can't be just passed on via a training manual to others. Having said this I have great admiration and respect for members of all branches of service especially those elite units who strive to be the best possible soldier they can be. Who has the toughest training?...Probably neither the Army nor the Marine Corps. My guess would be United Staes Navy SEALS. As far as I know no special or elite unit among any of the armed forces receives any more intense training. In the end all are on the same team so instead of asking who is tougher maybe the only question one should ask is "am I working hard enough to be a good (soldier, sailor, airman, marine) that will never let any of these others down?"

No, way. The branches are different in their traditions, and "culture". The only tougher facet to Marine training is that they tack on an additional 4 weeks.
The only notable difference between the two is that marine boots have to train for 4 weeks longer, and the corps instills a deeper "esprit-de-corps"
I tend to think the extra 4 weeks in Marine basic is because the person there needs the month to pick up what a soldier does in 8 weeks. The corps image is something that's been cultivated intentionally by their pub relations staff. This image, and the pride stressed by the corps attract and create servicemen who're more Glory Hounds than anything else. (in general, there's good folx in the corps like everywhere) Vets of other branches will usually agree that the usual marine is a preening self deluded showboat. This and the tendancy of a marine to bicker, and rip down other branches becomes so pathetic and tiresome that other branches want nothing to do with them.

Well, First the Marines are the ONLY branch of the U.S. military that does not train male and female recruits together. Thus they don't have to "water down" the standards required of male Marines, so that women an keep up. Also what in the world were you thinking when you suggested the Army adopt the same tradition? Traditions are passed down from person to person NOT adopted. OK, second there are some mighty tough units within the other branches of the military, lets see... Navy SEALS, Army Rangers, Air Force Para-rescue, anyone in Iraq or Afghanistan. Semper Fi, Marines

Let's make this real simple. If you enter any of the branches of the Armed Forces no matter which branch you enter their "Basic Training" is going to be the most stressful, and deamanding ordeal you have ever been through in your life. They are meant to be like that. After basic training you go through AIT which teaches you the basics of whatever job you may have chosen. These AIT's vary in so called toughness. I was an Army Infantryman and my AIT was alot more physically and mentally challenging than Basic but only lasted 8 weeks. Other MOS's last for as long as 1 year and the training is comparable to high level college academic training. The Marine Corp is no different than any other branch. One thing you will learn in the military is that there is alot of "bravado". It carries into the civilian unit to people who don't have a clue as to what the military is like. I can assure you all soldiers have a high degree of respect for their comrades in arms. Just ask the Army Ranger who calls in close air support. Or the marine who gets evaced by a Navy chopper.

"Navy Seal" is not a boot camp. That's a special training school. I went through Marine Corps boot camp four years ago. It has a reputation for being the toughest because it's the longest and the most physically demanding. The Marine Corps doesn't have tougher physical standards, they just have more. In the Air Force, you have to run a mile and a half, in the Corps you have to run three. I disagree with the comment about if AF boot camp was five weeks longer it would be "the toughest". Marine Corps boot camp you get no weekends off, unlike the AF, don't get to go home for holidays, like the Army, and you barely get to eat and you have a limited selection of food, unlike the Army who gets to eat candy and drink soda during boot camp. The limitations the Corps places on recruits is what makes it the toughest, not the actual training, because they MAKE your body be able to do the physical part.

The Marine Corps most often are the first in when they need a large number of people (when special forces won't do)
The Marine boot camp is much more demanding than the Army, Navy or Air-force, and they have a standard level of Bad-*** that the other armed forces do not have, however, other forces have more advanced levels of troops i.e. the army has the Rangers, Delta Force and Green Beret's among others the Navy has the SeALs and the Air Force has the Air-born Rescue. all of which are a much higher level of bad-*** than your basic Marine infantryman. Also the Marines have a much higher number of Infantrymen to support troops than the other forces, In the Army only a small percentage of the enlisted people are infantry -combat troops- and the rest are support troops with various jobs. So when you compare the standard enlisted Marine to the standard enlisted Army recruit, they will be more likely to be a higher caliber.

The training any branch of service gives its personnel is directly related to the types of missions that are required to perform. The Army has a specific mission as does the Marine Corps, Navy, and Air Force, BUT they all have exceptions to the rules such as the NAVY Seals, Army Green Beret, Marine Corps Force Recon, Air Force Para Rescue or Security Forces, Etc... I've served in 3 separate branches during my 20 years in the military and have learned that there are strong units and there are stronger units... It does not matter the Branch of service...

The Marine's have a tremendous history and are notorious for doing the dirty work. The reason is their extreme core philosophy. It brutal, but is not new. It basically makes the the Marine forget all comforts of life and privilege and self. It forms the mind to think as a team and to view failure and death in the same category. Deep deep philosophy, but not everyone can do it. Nor should everyone apply. The Army is trying to boost numbers with recruiters acting more like car salesmen than soldiers. If the Army adopted the same training as the Marines, they would not have enough "participants" to finish basic training.

It's true. Their boot camp is more intense compared to the Army, Army Reserves, it's similar to the Navy's, but not quite.

Why do you think they have the sign "The Few, The Proud, The Marines?"

The Army has only one division of the special forces that can compare to a marine, that's the Green Barrets. Those men are total bad asses, just watch Rambo. However the Navy Seals are the most highly ranked of the Special Ops branches.

Man you need to read a few books,
The marine Basic training manuel Actually used to be the original Army training manuel.
And if it werent for idiots like some liberals we would have tougher training , but Civil liberty jerks have stripped many layers of solid training away from all the branches of military for the sake of "a more Humanely atmosphere".
Yet we as Americans still are the finest, toughest, most professional fighting force in the world. Each with its own mission and training.
