The Bible says to kill people for eating shellfish.

Not that I can give you a whole Bible lesson here and now, but at least you do recognize that there's an Old part of the Bible, and after Jesus, there's the New Testament portion.

It should come as no great surprise, that religion folks have confidence in a benevolent god and that the world is not 'right' (ie sin) and that some day things will be made 'right'. Evil / wrong doers (people that are 'wrong') will be punished, while God's true children with stay with God forever, happy and satisfied.

This stuff above, is not to be 'proven', it's a just an element of faith. If you can't get past this idea, - then there's no point in reading on any further.

With the concept of 'righteousness' comes three aspects,- 1. It promotes the individual welfare. 2. It promotes societies welfare. 3. It promotes harmony with the true God.

So when it comes to subjects like practicing homosexuals, God has told his followers, to remove these people from your society, and as an example of a righteous God and as an example of what happens to 'wrong-doers', - have them done away with.

If the goal is God's righteousness, then fine, but if another goal is to have warm-fuzzy feelings about.. evweething... then too bad, God and religion are interested in righteousness.

They did not folloew the Bible. Jews not Christians were supposed to stone Homosexuals. Christians follow a different set of rules. The bible only mentions this because it was the old testimant laws. Jesus did away with these laws.

We are not living in the days of the Old Testament. God met people where they were back then. But then when God determined that the time was right, Jesus (God in the flesh) came into the world to tell us the rest of what He expects of us.

It's like how when a parent has a child, they don't expect them to behave like an adult. But when the child is old enough, you have to begin to raise your expectations of that child so that they may mature.

The Old Testament had progressive revelation. It was not the full revelation of God but a shadow of it. Then when Jesus came, He fulfilled that revelation and made it complete. In the New Testament God revealed to us much more about Himself (the concept of the Holy Trinity, one God in 3 divine persons) and what He expects from us.

Don't take the Old Testament out of the context of the New, and don't take the New Testament out of the context of the Old.

Also, don't try to interpret sacred scripture outside of the context of the sacred tradition of the Church which the bible came from.

Bottom line:
Jesus (God in the flesh) taught us that we are to love the sinner but hate the sin. And both the New and Old Testaments clearly state that the act of homosexual sex is a mortal sin and an abomination in the eyes of God.

Interesting question. You might want to look at Exodus 22:18 "You shall not permit a witch to live." Exodus is a great read, fun, exciting, and stimulates the imagination regarding ways to justify killing anyone that doesn't do just what I want them to do.
A search of the scriptures is amazingly lacking in reference to homosexuality. Makes me thing that all of the recent fundamentalist focus on the issue is more a political straw horse than anything the Biblical authors cared to deal with.
There are more references to witches than gays. And the writing is a whole lot clearer.

Under the law, you were stoned for many reason. One of them was a sin against nature, another one was doing work on the Sabbath Day. Today we are under grace and we don't stone people for breaking the law because we are not under the law but grace. However, people that go against nature are turn over to a reprobate mind. Romans 1: 26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: Romans 1: 27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. Romans 1: 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

I didn't know the bible said that. The pre-Jesus followers of the bible are called Jews. No, they didn't love the sinner that was one of the problems they had with Jesus.

The punishment for almost every kind of sin in the old testament was death by stoning. Jesus came and finished the old law to save people, and broke down the barrier between God and man.

btw, the Bible never said to stone someone for eating shellfish lol.

The Bible didn't say to stone people for being gay. It said to stone them for committing a homosexual act. I'm sorry, but the bible is clear on this ... your desires may be for the same sex, but you should never act on them, that is a sin. No, you can't help your sexual leanings, but you CAN control your sexual life.

It's not an easy thing to hear, to be told you must be celibate, but it's true.

old testament had lots of stonings thats done away with. it is still considered a sin along with murder, stealing etc and has nothing to do with loving the sinner.. it says love the sinner hate the sin

LOVE the sinner, HATE the sin.

simple enough. pray for the sinners and treat them respectfully and with love, even though you may not condone what they do.
There is no sense in gay bashing or meeting it with violence of any kind.
Judgement is Gods alone. Judge not lest ye be judged.
