Gray is neutral so you could do a color. What about a pale blue? Or a soft muted dark plum?

I envy you the space...it's like having a blank space so why not make the most of it. You don't mention decorating preferences or if this room adjoins another (which would play a part in the color scheme you choose). First taken in the color of the floor covering. Since the furniture is gray, you will need a rug to pull them together, so it's essential that both colors be in the rug. Also, consider the wall trim, color of any wooden pieces, and again the adjoining room which is most of the time a kitchen area. What are the colors in the floor covering, walls and countertops. Even those the family room is large, you still want a cohesive look as one room blends into the other. Other than that, the world is your oyster! I tend towards strong, bold color, picture an exotic market in Calcutta...deep rich hues of purple, mustard, cinnamon red, sage green, and then maybe a pale turquoise and chartruese. I know it sounds like alot of color, but any combination of them would work great in here if they blend with colors in the next room.
Take some time to go "hunting." First, since you know you want a rug, take a tiny snip of the fabric from the underside of you loveseat and find a rug you absolutely love, since this is probably going to be a major purchase for the room. If you can take a photo with you, try to find a something else with these colors...be it an ornate mosaic topped table, a lage wall tapestry or painting. Since the furniture is gray, you could use various materials to enhance decorative items like brushed pewter or nickel or other metal finishes that do not have a brass or yellow tone to it. You could mix and match colors of plump toss pillow on the sofa or even go with some of the embellished ones that are popular now. You could even use layers of sheer scarves in the chosen colors mixed with a pale oyster grey over textured roman shades.
The biggest thing to remember is that gray is a cool color. You can pretty much any warm tone and achieve a great look. Make use of what you already have, work with colors you've chosen in other areas of the house and keep in the same style of decorating and your room is bound to look great!!

OK, pick out a fabulous piece of art that has the colors that call you! A fabric, or a painted glass; anything that just has your name on it..Pick out 3 colors to work with. Make one your primary color, one a trim color and the other to accent. You can slip cover those chairs. Gray are kinda boring, unless you must have it then use red accents with the Grey and perhaps an olive green.

I would suggest doing something dramatic, like a deep burgundy rug, with an almost imperceptibly silvery gray paint for the walls, but leave the ceiling white for just a hint of contrast.

Well if it is gray I'm think coffee but if you want to make it a bit more wild I'd say a light blue which would look rather nice with a white border.
Other colors that would look good are beige, white, blue, red.
Color rug: depends I'd say tan or grey to match the couch.

Living room is a neutral area you dont want anything too girly or boyish soo i say like a burgandy or a muted red....and maybe a rug that accents the grey and the red...i know red is a seriously scary color but its such a warm color to come home too.

You could do cream or off-white on 3 of the walls with a maroon shade on the focal wall. Then you could use a dark charcoal color area rug. That would look pretty sweet! You could use black and white art prints with black frames for the walls and get some creamy and maroon throw pillows.
