You point out both ends the spectrum from those struggling to those truly elite and rich (maids, butlers and cooks). Most Americans are middle class, enjoy good jobs, rewarding careers, and nice homes in the suburbs. Only a few really hard working or truly lucky types get the mansions, maids and butlers. Those unfortunate and unable to pull themselves up into the middle class are given every opportunity to do so - but most do not. I'll give you a very sad sample of that group - they blamed the federal government for a lack of support during katrina's hurricane last year - yet they never blamed themselves for not evacuating, not being prepared and not handling the problem themselves.

Most are enjoying a pretty good life with a house in the suburbs, nice car and a summer house. Why do you have to complain if you make more than 40K?
Immigrants come to live well, too. Americans claim their land to be the land of opportunity so often, that eventualy other people decide to move in and check the reality. And if you are illegal, the "land of the free" actually become the hostile land of...slavery.
Vecause an illegal, no matter how skilled, has no chance for a good job.

Thousand and Thousands here can not afford basics and that is going to get worst. Studies show the middle class is declining at a strong pace.
Immigration is main cause.
And in my family we can not get all the medical we need. How about help here first!!
Others know what you meant -ignore those stupid comments. And Sqwirl--your really Stupid to think nothing is happening. Does Mama still support you or what. Or are you just Dumb and Blind? Or you can't think beyond a day?

I am rich with the love of the love of my babies, I know GOD is patient with me and the rest of us. The bills get paid one way or another, and I am learning to control spending where it is not necessary. I don't have a pool in my back yard, but our house is a HOME..... Much more valuable than a mansion where you have so much so what is left to want? I spend about 75.00 a week to drive my baby girl to a school she is happy to be at, and again I am rich in what LOVE of my babies is, and that GOD is patient with all of us clueless people.......

Living on a paycheck to paycheck basis. And car running out of gas. And go fishing for my meals. No more dimes for my tithe. And my freezer is running empty. My dog has to eat grass for sustenance. I fly via a Boeing 747 broomstick. Baking soda is good for preventing cavities and removing soap scum in the shower stall. Yeah, yeah, yeah. what to do, what to do? Can Bill Gates spare me a hundred?

Everyone has problems, no matter how rich or poor. It's all relative. The great thing about America is that we have the opportunity to change our circumstances, our plight in life, if you will, with hard work and determination.
Don't like your life? Then change it and stop whining!

My pool is splendid, my home immaculate, I have a hard time balancing my checkbook (too many numbers *tee hee*, we never eat out.....may catch Typhoid......or cellulite....or acne......*tee hee*, my maid cooks what I order her too and she does it well when she is not drinking my liqour (I can't find good help...do you have that problem).
To end with sarcasm pouring out of every pore in my body.
We work and save and live within our means and plan for the future and save for her education. If tomatoes cost more one week...well we have cucumbers....if I have to miss a "cleaning" so my daughter can have hers well I do that. Your idea of rich may be opposite of mine. My rich is HAVING A HOME, PUTTING FOOD ON THE TABLE, SAVING FOR HER EDUCATION and having a doctor who knows us by name. We don't need a bowling alley in the basement for that.
Peace and reality
Ann E.....the day I left to join the Army....My parents stopped supporting me. I want to thank you for being a responsible human being and thank you for calling me out. That only makes people want to look at my posts and see intelligence played out with a splash of humanity. Thanks again.....YOU ROCK

Defining a rich life as a materialistic goal is very limiting.
A full and rich life is not necessarily one dependent on lots of money.
