This question is especially asked for a 5 gear bike. Why is it said that we should NOT drive with the clutch depressed (gear disengaged), while nothing is said about rolling the bike on neutral gear.

I understand that both situations are same. Any explainations ?

it is ok to roll in neutral. but you dont want to leave the clutch dissengaged for long periods of time because it causes extra wear on the clutch. idling on a gear would mean you are in gear and have the clutch pulled in. idling on neutral is just being in neutral.

nothing really.

But putting it neutral is good practice so you start off at the right position when you have to go from a green light.

Say you bring your bike to a stop from 4 gear. Idle it while your clutch is out. When the light turns green, you'll stall your bike if you forget to bring it back to 1 or neutral. You'll save your tranny and clutch a lot of unnecessary wear if you are the type to forget to shift down properly at a stop.

Not exactly the same because in neutral, the clutch need not be depressed. Keeping the clutch depressed more than necessary can reduce clutch life to to pressure on the clutch plate.
