First of all, when the person signed that they would like to be kept alive by whatever means possible, I do not believe anyone should make this decision for them. If they signed the paper NOT to be on machines, then this wouldn't be a problem because they would have not survived in the first place.
I do believe that anyone with Cancer, Aids, or any other deadly and NON curable virus, should be allowed this method, depending on the pain they have and will suffer.
I don't think elderly people that just want to get it over with should be allowed.
This is a very controversial issue and is in the category as abortions.

I believe that it should be legal, Why? because after a certain amount of time there is nothing that can really help that person anymore. keeping that person alive is really just for the people left behind then. and sooner or later they will have to deal with it anyway. But this doesn't mean that if tomorrow i go into a coma i want you pull the plug on friday either. would I in 5 years, yes and my familiy knows that's how i feel. Does yours?

I think if there's no possibility of the person recovering then it should be legal because who would want to live like that? But I think the decision should ultimately be left with the family members, they may know that a person had specific wishes if something were to happen and in that case they are doing what the person would have wanted. But I definitely don't think it should be legal for people who are conscious or may recover.

If I was on my last legs, dying in extreme pain and I had the choice to end it all or go through another couple months or weeks of utter hell, I'd have to opt for being euthanized. If at the same time some self important pious asshole told me I couldn't because it violated his religious beliefs, I'd kill him 1st, then opt to have myself euthanized.
Believing euthanasia is wrong is fine, but to enforce your will on those that truly are suffering is a heinous act indeed.
And for "c2a3j4u5n6" who posted a comment above. Most people don't believe in your holy book. What part of that don't you understand?

I most certainly believe euthanasia should be legal. I work in the veterinary field where it is an option. To us, when an animal is suffering and there is no cure in sight, it is cruel to keep the animal alive. People have the option to let their beloved pet die comfortably and with dignity.
Why is it that humans do not have the same option??

I think it should be legal, but ONLY in a case where the patient wants it. There should be VERY strict and clear laws regarding it, so we can be sure the sick person really wants to die. Otherwise we might end up arguing about another Terry Schiavo at some point.

i believe euthanasia is a good thing and should be legal...if a person cannot survive without life-support, then its their time to go. by keeping them on life support, then u would just be bein selfish. not only is that not allowing a family to properly mourn over a persons death, ur just racking up hospital bills for the family to pay...u live, u die, thats life
