Traditionally, a missionary is a propagator of their religion who works to convert individuals outside of their own community. Contemporary missionaries have taken on the cause of "justice", however most people view this as cultural imperialism and economic exploitation.

Actually the word apostle in the Bible means a "sent one" and that is fundamentally what a missionary is. One who is sent on a mission and in Christianity that mission is to spread the Good news that Jesus Christ died for our sins and we can have eternal life by believing in and following Him.
