yes, stop drinking them, instead:
clean a toilet:
Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl.after 1 hour flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.
To clean corrosion from car battery terminals :
Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion
To remove grease from clothes :
Pour a can of Coke into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola/Pepsi will help loosen grease stains
Soft drinks do not have any nutritional value (in terms of vitamins and minerals). They have higher sugar content, higher acidity, and more additives such as preservatives and colorings. Some people like to take cold soft drinks after each meal, guess what's the impact?
The Impact?
Our body has an optimum temperature of 370 for the functioning of digestive enzymes. The temperature of cold soft drinks is much less than 37, sometimes quite close to 0. This lowers the effectiveness of the enzymes and puts stress on our digestive system, digesting less food. In fact the food gets fermented. The fermented food produces bad smelling, gases, decays and forms toxins, which are absorbed in the intestines, get circulated in the blood and is delivered to the whole body. This spread of toxins can lead to the development of various diseases.
Imagine
what the drink must be doing to your soft intestines and stomach lining!

I think everyone drinks soda for that reason because it tastes good. A few days ago, I made a promise to myself to not drink soda for one year. I'm 16, by the way. This is when we're supposed to be eating all the junk haha. If I can do it, you can too. I know that quitting cold turkey isn't easy, but think about all the good things that you're doing for your body. There's a lesser chance of having diabetes and being unhealthy in general. Drink water! It does wonders for your skin (as an added bonus). Just keep this mindset: I want to be healthier, and cutting out empty calories and some sugar will be good for me. Good luck(:

this part is gross...

One common problem I have seen over the years, especially in teenagers, is general gastrointestinal (GI) distress. This includes increased stomach acid levels requiring acid inhibitors and moderate to severe gastric inflammation with possible stomach lining erosion. The common complaint I hear is chronic "stomach ache." In almost every case, when the client successfully abstains from sodas and caffeine, the symptoms will go away.

What causes these symptoms? We know that many soda brands contain caffeine and that caffeine does increase stomach acid levels. What we may not be aware of is that sodas also contain an array of chemical acids as additives, such as acetic, fumaric, gluconic and phosphoric acids, all of them synthetically produced. That is why certain sodas work so well when used to clean car engines. For human consumption, however, the effects are much less satisfying and quite precarious. Drinking sodas, especially on an empty stomach, can upset the fragile acid-alkaline balance of the stomach and other gastric lining, creating a continuous acid environment. This prolonged acid environment can lead to inflammation of the stomach and duodenal lining which becomes quite painful. Over the long term, it can lead to gastric lining erosion.

You're right about the high calories in many soft drinks, and for old geezers like me, the caffiene isn't all that advisable either. I've switched to caffiene-free diet colas. Although a purist would insist that water is better for ya - well, sorry, but I insist upon a bit of variety in my beverages. So I flavor up my caffiene-free diet colas by adding a touch of vanilla extract and/or of maraschino cherry flavoring. One can also enjoy some of the sugar-free, caffiene free iced tea mixes flavored with the same, or with other fruity flavorings. A nice sugar-free lemonade is great on a really hot humid day - it's actally a heck of a lot better for ya - and a heck of a lot cheaper - than those so-called "sports drinks". Again, you're correct about high sugar content, but I can't support eliminating all colas. If you don't understand why, re-read the proceeding.

That's not a question. But yeah, high fructose corn syrup is bad for you. Drink diet soda if you must.

I'd rather drink a ice cold coke than a glass or H2O any day of the week.

I am glad that you brought this up. I work as a nutritional advisor in my local health food store. We discuss health and nutrition with people who come in. I agree with Pinelake who brings up the aspartame topic. It is a very harmful substance. Look for products that contain Stevia if possible. It is a natural plant based sweetener with no affect on your insulin levels. People with diabetes or on low carb diets can take Stevia with no problems. Cheers.
