Im currently 37 weeks pregnant and having a girl. My step son says hes not going to love her because shes a girl. He has a 4 year old brother that he adores. Im scared that hes going to be really hard to deal with after the baby is born. I will be so hurt if he doesnt love her!

I can't tell you that it will all work out because there aren't any guarantees. However, once he sees the baby and gets to experience "big brother joy", chances are he will be a lot more receptive to loving the baby. Maybe he feels a little like he didn't get a vote on this baby's sex (not that you did either!) and he's scared because he knows nothing about girls. Or it could just be that he's jealous because of all the attention a girl baby is going to get- cute outfits, etc.

Really I think the only thing you can do is to try not push him. Once the baby is born, maybe you can have him get involved with the daily care of the baby -- slowly! And don't really push that either. Just take everything one day at a time and I'm sure he will come around. Just make a big deal out of what he's said in the past. If you let it go, chances are that he will too! Good luck!

He'll get over it believe me kids say things like that all the time until they see the littleone. But when you have the baby and he's displaying negitive behavior towards the baby you need to sit down and talk to dad and him together to see what's really going on.Because he should not love her just because she's a girl. That's crazy.Just wait and see how he act's around the baby and like I said if you see him acting crazy then you and dad sit down with him and get to the bottom it right then and there.Goodluck don't you worry yourself about this kids can sometimes be crazy.

Try figuring out why he does'nt like girl's, tell him
he is going to be the big brother and he has to help
take care of her,try using movies, books and toys that
might show him interest in helping with her, you can also
show him A picture bible.

He'll see her and love her just the same, I wouldn't worry untill after she's born and he acts like that.

You need to talk with him. Or maybe you should leave or make him leave. I know you have a difficult situation on your hands. Perhaps you should think about a family phyciatrist. I hope it all works out!

at first it might be a hard adjustment for him...but he'll grow to love her...and I'm sure he'll be a very protective brother...just wait and see...he'll do fine...it may take a bit but he'll be a great big brother.
