Even if you do not believe, why are the concepts in the Bible bashed. I'm not talking about those hell fire and brimstone preachers who all they have to say is that you are going to Hell. The lessons on forgiveness, love one another, the 10 commandments, commitment, helping others, etc. Those in and of them selves are not bad things, so why not practice those concepts. I'm not judging by the way, but what turns you away from something so wonderful? I wouldn't mind having a serious discussion or even a study with you. Please don't send rude comments, its just a question.

I actually really appreciate your question. The interesting thing here is that I DO practice those concepts- because it's the right thing to do for a peacefull society, not because an unseen, unproven entity threatens eternal damnation if I don't. Atheists are moral and ethical ppl because we should be. We ALL should be. I "turned away" because I asked myself- really asked myself the tough questions. Now, I'm not writing this to persuade you, so I need not go into details, but when I looked at the facts, I realized there were none. It was very hard. I was born into religion like most ppl are. It was scary, and it was gradual. I don't hate the church or have had bad experiences- on the contrary. I have fond memories from my childhood that include religion. Thank you for daring to asking a question and not just making generalizations like so many others do.

Those are all great concepts to live by. I simply do not believe the Bible should be interpreted literally as the word of God. It doesn't diminish the positive message thorough most of the Bible (there's some problems with it too, it's not perfect) if it was thought up and written down by mankind.

The problem I have with religion and the Bible is the way some people twist it around to suit their own self-righteous agendas. I feel religion is a personal decision that everyone should make for themselves after serious internal contemplation and thorough examination of the world. Not one made out of a fear of possible eternal pain and suffering.

Don't tell me that the answer to everything is in the Bible. The hard questions don't have easy answers. If we don't continue to ask the hard questions, we'll never get any answers.

The positive aspects of the Bible are not unique to the Bible and don't require a belief in a God. The ones you have pointed out are generally good (although some of the 10 commandments are rather unusual), but they are human characteristics. I don't see how belief in a deity matters one way or the other in deciding whether these things would be part of a good society. Why don't you simply follow those moral rules and forget about whether their is a God judging you?

I have no problem with most of the Ten Commandments. However, I do have a problem with the "One God" thing.

Abortion's not allowed? Not cool with that. Same thing goes with Homosexuals not being allowed to marry. I have a few homosexual friends who want to be able to get married when they're older.

Calling people not Christian Satanists gets to me, too.

Also, the Trinity doesn't make sense to me.

Otherwise, loving and helping other's I'm cool with.

What makes you think atheists do not treat other's with respect and love and compassion?

I know I do. Which begs the question, if you can live life by those values, why do you need ancient goat-herders to tell you how to live in the modern day? Or believe in an invisible sky-daddy?

it takes an irrational mind to believe in irrational fairy tales... also some of us atheist so follow those concepts except the 10 commandments. but you don't need religion to be a good person or have good morale values.

I find that things are pretty easy to explain without the Bible. I think the Bible is ok for learning how to be nice to people, I just don't think it is in any way literally true.

dont think me arrogant for this but i think that if u want to have a "god" then u have one. the problem with most and i say most christians is that they beleive in one "god "and one only and who ever doesnt beleive in that one "god" then they worship the "devil".
also i beleive religion is just something to blame other people for your own problems....but again do what u want and will

People reject God because of arrogance. They want to be in God's place, to have no one above themselves. So, they will fool themselves into thinking they are smarter than God.

Well it's not really that I don't believe in God it's just that, I have different views on his abilities. I certainly don't believe that he created everything. I see that as impossible.
