What "sweet melody" says is totally wrong. I have been doing deep research on Plasma n LCD over the year. Nowadays, both plasma and LCD has at least a life span of 10 years. back to the topic, the only advantage the lcd has over plasma is the screen-burn immunity. however, new generations of plasma has already imrpoved on this aspect. Therefore u can almost say that lcd now has NO advantage over plasma... even for the price. Since this year, the price of lcd has been dropping alot, but still for a same resolution and screen size plasma n lcd, the lcd will be much more expensive. Advantages of plasma over lcd: Contrast Ratio, grey scaling(black levels), NO motion artifacts and much more cheaper. If u wsih to know more about them and HDTVs, u can purchase a "What Video" magazine, it's simply an amazing mag. If u wan totally future-proof, Panasonic PV60 series is your choice, it support 1080p and is definitly one of the best plasma brand out there besides Pioneer(another plasma leading brand). DO NOT listen to what the saleman recommend, they only promote those TV sets with more comission to u. Buy a decent HDTV mag n start reading! =) I will only consider to have a LCD TV if i want a small screen for my room, i'm using Panasonic 42PV500 in my living room now.

#Edit: What "Immortal Blade" says below is definitly not true. Since year 2005, most of the plasma and LCD already has 60,000 hours of life span. Now, 2006+ ALL plasma n lcd TV has a MINIMUN of 60,000 hours of life span. That's why they have reomve this stats from the TV specification as 60,000 hours is way too much to reach.

Plasma degrades and only has about a five year lifespan. LCD doesn't have that problem. However, LCD doesn't give you as good a picture looking at it from an angle, you have to be looking at it straight on. We have a Projection HDTV, neither Plasma or LCD. It's nice. The only downfall is the bulb, which right now costs about $300 blows about every 3 years. They figure the cost will go down as this technology gets older.
