there are three different thing,s that will set the alarm off,,,first is oil mixture sensor,second is rev-limiter,help,s control of over racing the engine,and third is the temperature,of the engine,any one of these means you should check the engine,my boat has one,and the last time it went off the water pump was going out,and the motor was running,,just a little hotter than it should have,,but lucky for me i checked it,,and it helped save my motor,,and really that,s the job it was designed to do,,so you might want to take a little time and look your engine over,it may help save your engine too.

dodgeman knows his stuff!
my folks bought a boat with an older johnson on it. it had no alarms and dad managed to blow the engine the third day out. cost him over 15 thousand to replace it. alarms are good!

probably low oil......some lawn tractors and generators have low oil alarms
