I am not an atheist, I am very spiritual, but I believe that all religion is man made to gain money and control the population. I'm not saying religion is bad, from what I have extensively studied, it seems that most religion, including Islam, is based on positive principles, but it seems fanatics misconstrue what their various religions say, and they go nuts on it. I personally tend to follow the lessons of the Buddha, but those lessons are just a philosophy, and Buddha was just a man who wanted to make peoples lives better, and I think Jesus was as well, a la DaVinci Code. What say you, and why?

no, my extensive research is not the 'davinci code', though I think the davinci code, amidst all the conspiracy, drama, and just plain nonsense, there are some potentially valid theories.... My 'extensive study' is a result of 15 years of study of philosophy, religions, and politics. and as a point, an atheist is someone completely devoid of any beliefs about the before and the after, they believe in the absolute void. A theist believes in a definate before and an after, and whomever mentioned the Buddha's points on reincarnation etc, is absolutely right, there are some theories in his philosophies that cannot be proven, till we're dead that is... and I am under no circumstances a buudhist. I believe every religion/philosophy has something to teach us, and I take what I can from each and every one.... thanks everyone for participating!

All organized religion is tricky. They are all open to the interpretations (and misinterpretations) of fallible men. Not one body of organized religion can ever own up to being perfect and always able to interpret correctly what God wants of us mortals.

True religion is deeply personal. It's what you BELIEVE in, what you stand for, the principles you uphold and (in extreme situations) are willing to die for.

I believe in God ~ Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I believe the Bible is the Word of God. What I don't like about most mainstream religions is worshiping God seems to have been put on the back burner. They read the same scripture passages year after year after year . . . There is SO MUCH MORE to the Bible. My husband and I are almost finished reading the Old Testament from beginning to end. There are some fascinating stories. Things that most people will never know because they don't read the Bible and don't hear it in church. I can't wait to start all over again, after we read the New Testament. I know I'll learn something new each time I read it. There is only one true and Living God. Not Buddha. Not Allah (as the Muslims see him). Certainly not Mohamed. Jesus told us He is the way, the truth and the life. That He is the ONLY way to the Father, to heaven.

Jesus was not "just a man." He is the Only Son of God. God come to earth as man. He performed miracles. Buddha didn't. Nor did Mohamed. He died on the cross for our sins, rose from the dead and ascended into heaven. No mere mortal could do that. Only God.

You're a good thinker. I think that is a blessing.

I follow Islam. I agree that the religion has its adherents who seem to interpret in a totally different light. I try to follow traditional Islam. It's a a simple concept really, but it takes a lot of self-discipline and self-control. Yet, it eases the heart. Truly wonderful. The people in Iraq blowing up mosques and buses, the Taliban, etc -- those are people who have lost touch with what is in the Qur'an and the Sunnah (sayings and actions of Prophet Muhammad).

What do you mean by spiritual? What is a spirit to you? If you think very logically u will find that Buddha himself hold some beliefs
that cannot be proved or disproved(like his previous births, existence
of some supernatural beings, re-incarnation). Truth is not relative.
It's absolute. If you don't find it it's your problem. You said your not an atheist--that means you r a theist(believer in GOD). Search the truth. Truth doesn't depend on ur beliefs or likes-dislikes.

I'm pagan and since paganism is based on only a few principles, one of which is "if it harm not do what you will" it has a tendency not to have those problems. There are many different sub-groups and because of the previously stated creed followers don't really go crazy with it. If they follow that principle they can't push their beliefs on other people.....which kinda rules out controlling the population. :-P Not to say that there aren't some nutty pagans.....they are just nutty in a different way. Also, I think the lack of churches keeps pagans from gaining any money to abuse.

If your "extensive" studies meant that you read the DaVinci Code to find out about Jesus, then you need to re-study Jesus.

You can have all the knowledge of heaven and earth regarding God, but without Love, you have nothing.

Sorry, but it's true.

I respect your perspective , but i disagree with you as well

If God has created us , then He must have had assigned for us a way of life.

Because there is only one human race, there has to be one perfect way assigned by God for the human beings as a way of life. That is Islam which means submission to the will of God. "The Religion in the sight of God is Islam." (Quran 3:19)

sincerely
