There is no money box in my Church. They are there to help out the expenses of the Church. Vatican can't forgives sins, only individual priests. John 20:21-23. Your questions are very silly. The Catholic Church is the original Church of Jesus Christ. It has been protected by Jesus for 2,000 years.

They have nothing to do with forgiving sins, and as said before, they're usually only found in old churches. I think the idea was that by donating money in their name, you are pleasing to them, and so they're more likely to answer your prayer. I doubt this works, but since the money goes towards upkeeping the Church or helping the poor, I don't see it as something terrible either.

What church(s) did you find money boxes in? Some old ones have money boxes and candles by statues, for donations but those are pretty old churches

It goes back to the early catholic church selling indigence's (get out of purgatory free cards). you would put the money in the slot to ensure that the saint would hear and answer your prayer.

Because, like all other religions, christianity is big buisness. Some are just a bit more demonstrative about it than other sects.

There are two kinds of donation boxes.

Donations for the poor.

Donations to help pay for candles.

With love in Christ.
