My daughter is 8 months old. I have been trying to wein her off of breast milk since she was 6 months old. She DOES NOT LIKE formula at all. She will not take breast milk out of a bottle. I know that You are not sopose to give children under the age of 1 cows milk but its the only thing that she will take. I am ready for her to be weined. She has teeth and she bites. I am ready to go back to work. Or just have a baby sitter for one night. My question is
HOW MUCH COWS MILK DO I GIVE HER FOR ONE DAY? She eats fruit for breakfast, I give her eather fruit or vegatables for luch and for dinner she has what ever my family has which includes meat a vegatable and some kind of side but we grind it up for her. During the day if she seems like she is not satisfied I give her fruit. She drinks about 1 bottle through out the day. But I also give her yougert and cheese. Am i doing the right thing?

It sounds like your daughter is getting plenty of nutrition throughout the day. I would do what you are doing and talk to your doctor as well. If you want to wein your baby,do it. She is getting plenty of other goods. If she won't take formula, she is still getting other foods. Offer her formula or breastmilk in a bottle. She will either get hungry enough and eat it or get plenty of nurtition from the other things you offer her.
Good luck!

You really need to talk with your child's doctor. Children under one should not have cow's milk because it doesn't provide enough nutritional value. Up until one year the child's nutrition is coming from the breastmilk/formula the solid foods you provide don't even give her that much. I can sympathize with you .. neither of my children would take a bottle and by 9 months my daughter was walking and very active which made it hard to nurse her. How many times a day are you nursing? Try cutting out a feeding a day. If you want to go out just nurse her before you go and have the babysitter feed her solids while you are gone, she should be able to sleep through the night without a feeding at this point. You may just have to stick it out if she won't take a bottle unless you want to let daddy or another caregiver spend the day trying to give her a bottle. You might also try giving her breastmilk or formula in a sippy cup .. she may like it better that way. I did start giving my daughter cow's milk at around 11 months and she was fully weaned by 11 1/2. I have an older child and my daughter started drinking milk from his cup all the time and got good with the cup so I just stopped nursing (after talking to my pediatrician) because it was just getting to hard with her flipping around every where.
When she bites you .. pull her off and say NO in a firm but quiet voice. She will catch on after a couple of times. Sometimes they will chew at you when they are done feeding if this is the case figure out about how long it takes her to start doing this and cut her off just before, I had to do that with my son. Good luck!

try mixing a little formula in to the cows milk. my daughter just turned 9 months. i give her cows milk in sippy cups at every meal. i also give her what ever we eat a dinner. she wont eat baby food any more . my mom put me and my 2 sisters on cows milk at this age. i haven't yet just because there are so many more vitamins in formula. ( but i only Brest feed for a month i couldn't produce enough) if mixing formula into the cows milk doesn't work
try giving her more nutation else where . i give my daughter scrambled eggs for breakfast. and at lunch give her meat then too along with a side dish.and stuff like yogurt and real bananas are all good for too. my daughter still drinks 4-5 bottles a day
her dr. told me to keep giving her bottles until 12 months.
i really think 1 scoop of formula in the cows milk in each bottle would work.. i hope that helps.
i also wanted to add it is ok to give cows milk to childern under 12 months. my daughters dr is a stickler and she knows i give her cows milk at least 3 times a day . she said it was fine.

You can include baby cereal for her at this age along with her fruit & veggies. Also things like mashed potatoes & small bits of pasta can be a source of good food that can keep her feeling full for a long time.If she likes rice, you can make it really soft, mash it up with your hands & give that.As long as she enjoys her food, you can give her pretty much anything, but keep it low in grease. Most kids are not going to make an easy transition from breast to bottle. It is a battle of wills. So,take it slow.Make sure you are firm in your decision.Giving in to her demands when you don't want to will discourage the transition.Ask your Dr. if it's ok to give her cow's milk at this age.Get a sippy cup & let her get used to it.I'm sure it will work out fine. All the best.

i forget, it's been a while but your pediatrician ought to be able to tell you about the milk. try a sippy cup instead of a bottle although bottles are sure easier for you. will she take a bottle fro some one other than you? good luck

Don't give her cow's milk...try different formulas until you find one that she likes. It is really important for your baby to get the nutrients from either breast milk or formula. REALLY IMPORTANT. Talk to your doctor for more ideas.

look into gerber cereals (rice, oatmeal,barley)....my wife couldn't feed our son after 6 months so we had to find things...the calcium and protein grams are LARGE for children which is why they're looked down on...but our son was drinking cows milk at 7 months...but our son never had a problem..

Put horseradish on your nipples next time you breast feed her. She'll never want them again. My parents did that to get me off of the pacifier---my mom said it worked after one try.
