Staying there at a hotel for a few days on vacation. Wondering how it's going to be taking public transportation and coming back late at night and such.

Neither good or bad as a base. Close to some nice beaches, shopping and freeeways. Otherwise not much to see in El Segundo itself. It is mostly an industrial city. I have no idea how the public transport system is. I would strongly recommend a car. It is a safe city.

Depends what you are going to do in ES? Since it is stuck between the LA Airport and the sewage treatment plant, it kinda sucks if you are sensitive to noise or stench. It is located close to a lot of major employers and freeways. Never lived there, but drive through on my way to the airport. It's been booming (a lot of new construction) and it's close to the beach... so what do you think?
