The information given previously seems correct (770 kilometres or about 480 miles, reachable in 9 hours by train, thinking about Zurich.
Now, although small, Switzerland is a very multifaceted country - and the different parts may be some extra hours away from Zurich (the most practical railway station to arrive from Austria).
Naturally you can spend a whole day in Zurich, on foot, just to see what's going on. The medieval alley ways, the CBD with it's variety of luxurious shops and the lake are well-known attractions.
In Zurich, the official language is German - but it's easy to get through in English. Most clerks would be able to speak English, even most people on the street will be able to communicate in English (more or less). All touristic information is available in English anyway...

Vienna is sorta far away, because it is on the other side of Austria. It would take a while by car, but train is fine. The great thing about Europe is that you can go virtually anywhere by train, and efficiently too. Its a bit far for a day trip though. Perhaps overnight would be ok.
They speak German there, but a good number speak English. You should be able to get around without a guide. If you arent too street-wise, you would be better off sticking with a tour group.
As far as Switzerland is concerned, French and German and some Italian in the South are the languages.

How far is Switzerland from Vienna? Can I travel there by Train?
What language do they speak? Will I be okay just going for the day without a guide?

It's about 150 miles. Travel by train is easy, and highly recommended - you'll be travelling through the beautiful alps! (But do travel by daytime). Besides that, both Austrian and Swiss trains are generally very luxurious.
The main language is Switzerland is German, although in some parts they speak French (Lausanne, Geneve). In Austria they speak German. Most people will speak enough english to understand you. Going to Vienna for a day will be fine, but consider Salzburg as well (Mozart's place of birth) - a lot of culture, and about halfway from Switzerland to Vienna.

I think you are trying to do too much in a 7-day trip. My personal experience has been that it's far better to spend a week in one place exploring it than to rush from place to place. Rushing about means your trip is a blur by the time you get home. If you can't adjust your plans and you already have a flight TO Paris with a flight home FROM Vienna then you need to plan carefully. You can only scratch the surface of anywhere you plan to go in a few days. There are many guidebooks for Paris, Switzerland, and Vienna and you should do the research to prioritize the things you want to see/do. Moving around Paris is best by the Metro (underground/subway). Note that some popular attractions (ex. going to the top of the Eiffel Tower) have to be reserved in advance. Geneva and Zurich are nice cities but you should go to Switzerland for the mountains. Choose somewhere like Montreux or Zermatt to stay, and see what you can from there. Vienna is a lot like Paris and there is no way to see everything in a day or two. If it were me, I would, spend three nights in Paris, two nights in Switzerland and the remaining night or two in Vienna. You can get from Paris to Montreux by train in about 6 hours (Paris to Zermatt is about 8 1/2 hours) and from Switzerland to Vienna in about 12 hours. You may be able to take overnight trains instead of spending the nights in hotels, but ONLY do that IF you get a couchette (bunk) or sleeping car. Check with a real travel agent about reserving sleeping accommodations on trains.

just come back Switzerland and Vienna. i only speaks English, but had no problem going around. Most people there speaks good english and they are very nice too.
Train is the best way to travel in europe. but from where to Switzerland you are travelling from? Assuming it's Zurich, it's 9 hours train to Vienna, shortest. we stopped at Salzburg on the way, it's very small nice city, and from Salzburg is 3 more hours to Vienna. If you are travelling from other part of Switzerland, usually it will take longer than 9 hours.
here is a site that has train schedule information for your reference: http://fahrplan.sbb.ch/bin/query.exe/en?externalCall=yes

Eurail & Train Travel Guide to Europe (houghton miffin) is a GREAT book on train travel. It has all the timetables etc. You could even make a stop in your travels. I have to agree with all...train travel in Europe is GREAT!!! You can usually get a hotel reserved for youright there at the train station (they might charge a couple bucks at most for this service) Just remember, if the schedule says 12:00 it means it LEAVES at 12:00 not 12:01 or 12:02......Have fun!!! (seriously think about stopping in Salzburg...

I would strongly recommend you visit only one or two of those places, or you will spend much of your time traveling and hardly have any time to see the places you visit. Even two of those places in seven nights would be rushed. You would need a minimum of ten days to see all three in any meaningful way. If you decide you really want to do that in seven days, arrange for an "open-jaw" ticket where you fly into Paris and out of Vienna. Then fly into Paris, spend three nights there, leave the next morning for Interlaken in Switzerland, spend two nights there, leave the next morning for Vienna, and spend two nights there.
