A while back, I straightened my hair with perm solution and the next thing I know, I have a spot at the top of my head where the hair broke off at the roots.

I have been letting it grow out, but won't it eventually start to stick out and be noticeable?

The rest of my hair is long almost one length, and I have to pull it back all the time to hide this bald spot.
I am terrified that taller people see this spot!

I don't want to cut my hair if I can help it. I think I have this (now one inch long) bald spot about 2 inches in round, trained... but I can't wear my hair down cause of that.

Has anyone else had this happen? what did you do? what should I do? should I wear my hair back until the end of time, or go ahead and get it cut short and start again?

i did the same thing awhile ago but it was because i trusted one of my friends to cut it my hair. i used barettes for awhile until it grew out. years later i cut my hair VERY short because at the time i was living in south korea and the summers were unbearable. i ended up loving the cut and wished i had thought of cutting it short when the "hair incident" happened. if you dont want to cut your hair useing gel or some heavy leave in conditioner (so the hair is too heavy to stick up) would work well. but dont be afraid to try new looks. i was terified of cutting my hair that short (one inch every where, then i gelled it into spikes) but heat won over beauty in the end and im glad it did! by cutting my hair i gained a lovely look and made the summer a bit more cooler.

If you like it long then wear it up or back until the spot grows back out.
Perm solution that you left on too long or put tension on while it was processing is the cause.
It's just your choise, I imagine you have a good bit of damage to the rest of your hair if it was enough to make that spot break off at the scalp so cutting and staring over is a way to get rid of the damage,, best wishes. Next time let a professional do it for you with Paul Mitchell straightener.

You probably did not get the right perm solution for your hair or left it in too long. A lot of people have done that. Sorry it happened to you. And sorry again, but cutting it will be the best way to mask the problem area as well as give your hair a chance to become healthy again. Your hairdresser can also give some suggestions for the future. Also, some deep conditioning can help salvage some of the damage.

Sounds like the perm solution was left on too long and it burned the roots. The only solution is to let it grow back. In the meantime, until the new hair gets to the length you want, I suggest wearing a pretty headband or scarf. Good luck!

1) Get your deep conditioned once every week, just to bring within the moisture and protein again into your hair. 2) cut off as a minimum 1 inch every 6 weeks. Three) Dont get your chemically achieved unless the whole thing is grown out. 4) try to not use any warmth styling toold for awhile, if you plan on utilizing it, pls use a warmness protectant spray CHI 44 iron look after and CHI Silk infusion (investigate out salons near u) 5) Wash your hair each 2 to three days. 6) are trying to not use any mousse, hairspray and gel product for awhile. (hair serum is fine)
