They don't want to lose your friendship but they don't want anymore than friendship.
If you have had a relationship that included more it would be a fear of losing you all together just because they were no longer your lover.
Sometimes it is more a way of controlling and making sure your still there if they change their minds. These are the ones you want to make sure you walk away from.
